  1. 1. Scanning Tunnelling Microscopy Studies of Na Islands on Graphite, Impurity Interactions on Cu(111) and Low Temperature Structures of S/Cu(111)

    Author : Erik Wahlström; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; photoelectron spectroscopy; Scanning tunnelling microscopy STM ; Na HOPG; scanning tunnelling spectroscopy STS ; metal quantum wells; surface impurity interaction; S Cu 111 ;

    Abstract : A scanning tunnelling microscope (STM) can reveal the atomic order of a surface as well as details of its electronic structure. In the present work STM, in combination with core and valence photo-electron spectroscopy and low energy electron diffraction (LEED) was applied to three different systems: (i) simple metal quantum wells in the form of Na films and islands on highly oriented pyrolytic graphite (HOPG), (ii) low temperature S/Cu(111) structures discovered in the course of this work and (iii) impurities on Cu(111). 2. 2. On the origin and evolution of the palaeoproterozoic Aitik Cu-Au-Ag deposit, northern Sweden : a porphyry copper-gold ore, modified by multistage metamorphic-deformational, magmatic-hydrothermal, and IOCG-mineralizing events

    Author : Christina Wanhainen; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Malmgeologi; Ore Geology;

    Abstract : The Aitik Cu-Au-Ag mine in the Gällivare area in northern Sweden is the biggest open pit operation in northern Europe and one of Europe’s largest metal producers. The open pit is almost 3 km long, 930 m wide and 345 m deep. Approximately 424 million tonnes of ore averaging 0.4% Cu, 0. READ MORE

  3. 3. Vibrational Spectroscopy of Surface Adsorbates on Metal Surfaces. Experiments and Calculations

    Author : Ragnar K Ásmundsson; Kemisk fysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ab initio electronic structure calculations; Fermi resonance; vibrational spectroscopy; Reflection absorption infrared spectroscopy; Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy; Cu 100 and W 110 single crystal surfaces; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : This work deals with a detailed analysis of the vibrational spectra of methoxy (CH3O-) and ethoxy (CH3CH2O-) on W(110) and Cu(100) single crystal surfaces. By using theoretical ab initio quantum mechanical modeling, it is demonstrated that an unprecedented quantitative understanding of the vibrational frequencies of a surface adsorbate can be obtained. 4. 4. Structure, Bonding and Chemistry of Water and Hydroxyl on Transition Metal Surfaces

    Author : Klas Andersson; Anders Nilsson; Falko Netzer; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; core-level spectroscopy; surface chemistry; water; hydroxyl; metal surfaces; adsorption; structure; hydrogen bonding; Chemical physics; Kemisk fysik;

    Abstract : The structure, bonding and chemistry of water and hydroxyl on metal surfaces are presented. Synchrotron based x-ray photoelectron- and x-ray absorption spectroscopy along with density functional theory calculations mainly form the basis of the results. READ MORE

  5. 5. Dissociative Adsorption of CO2 on Copper: The Role of Steps

    Author : Benjamin Hagman; Synkrotronljusfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; koppar; CO2; Copper surface; Carbon Dioxide : chemistry; Dissociative adsorption; Surface oxidation; Ambient pressure X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy APXPS ; Surface X-ray diffraction SXRD ;

    Abstract : CO2 chemistry has received significant interest in recent time, due to the greenhouse effects of CO2 emissions and the resulting climate change. CO2 reduction reactions, such as methanol synthesis and reverse water-gas shift, is providing a route for recycling of CO2 and thus limiting the CO2 emissions. READ MORE
