  1. 11. Oscillatory Signaling and Insulin Secretion from Single ß-cells

    Author : Olof Idevall Hagren; Anders Tengholm; Erik Gylfe; Leslie Satin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cAMP; Ca2 ; oscillations; beta-cell; insulin secretion; evanescent wave microscopy; PIP3; PKA; Epac; Medical cell biology; Medicinsk cellbiologi; Medical Cell Biology; Medicinsk cellbiologi;

    Abstract : cAMP and Ca2+ are key regulators of exocytosis in many cells, including insulin-secreting pancreatic β-cells. Glucose-stimulated insulin secretion from β-cells is pulsatile and driven by oscillations of the cytoplasmic Ca2+ concentration ([Ca2+]i), but little is known about the kinetics of cAMP signaling and the mechanisms of cAMP action. 2. 12. Membrane lipids and their transfer proteins in β-cells

    Author : Beichen Xie; Olof Idevall-Hagren; Anders Tengholm; Jen Liou; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Ca2 ; PKC; E-Syt1; TMEM24; ER-PM contact; PI 4; 5 P2; phosphoinositides; β-cell; insulin; optogenetics; Biology with specialization in Molecular Cell Biology; Biologi med inriktning mot molekylär cellbiologi;

    Abstract : Insulin secretion from β-cells is essential for glucose homeostasis and is often dysregulated in diabetes. Intracellular Ca2+ and membrane lipids cooperate to control insulin secretion with high spatial and temporal precision. READ MORE

  3. 13. Plant type II NAD(P)H dehydrogenases : Structure, regulation and evolution of NDB proteins

    Author : Mengshu Hao; Molekylär cellbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Arabidopsis; Ca2 ; Electron transport; NDH-2; NDB; pH; NADH; NADPH; Plant mitochondria; Potato; Type II NAD P H dehydrogenase;

    Abstract : In living organisms, respiration is a biological process degrading different carbon substrates, consuming O2, and releasing the carbon as CO2. Plants have several alternative enzymes that are involved in the respiratory processes, as compared to animals. READ MORE

  4. 14. Epac2 signaling at the β-cell plasma membrane

    Author : Ida Alenkvist; Anders Tengholm; Olga Göransson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; β-cell; insulin secretion; cAMP; Ca2 ; Epac; Rap; exocytosis; sulfonylurea; Medical Cell Biology; Medicinsk cellbiologi;

    Abstract : Secretion of appropriate amounts of insulin from pancreatic β-cells is crucial for glucose homeostasis. The β-cells release insulin in response to glucose and other nutrients, hormones and neurotransmitters, which trigger intracellular signaling cascades, that result in exocytotic fusion of insulin-containing vesicles with the plasma membrane. 5. 15. α-Cell signalling in glucose-regulated glucagon secretion

    Author : Qian Yu; Anders Tengholm; Erik Gylfe; Sebastian Barg; David W Piston; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Islets; glucagon; insulin; somatostatin; ATP; cAMP; Ca2 ; GHB; oscillations; α-cell; β-cell; δ-cell; Medical Cell Biology; Medicinsk cellbiologi;

    Abstract : Glucagon is a blood glucose-elevating hormone released from α-cells in the islets of Langerhans during hypoglycaemia. Glucagon is critical for glucose homeostasis and inappropriate regulation of its secretion underlies both impaired counter-regulation of hypoglycaemia and chronic hyperglycaemia in diabetes patients.
