1. A Study on Desulfurization of Hot Metal Using Different Agents
Abstract : This thesis deals with desulfurization of hot metal using different agents. The aim of this study was to improve the understanding of commonly used desulfurization agents such as fluidized CaO, CaC2, commercial-CaO, Mg, and mixtures of commercial-CaO-Mg. The possibility to use ZnO for desulfurization of hot metal was also investigated. READ MORE

2. Structure and Phase Stability of CaC2 Polymorphs, Li2C2 and Lithium Intercalated Graphite : A Revisit with High Pressure Experiments and Metal Hydride–Graphite Reactions
Abstract : Alkali (A) and alkaline earth (AE) metals can form carbides and intercalated graphites with carbon. The carbides mostly represent acetylides which are salt-like compounds composed of C22− dumbbell anions and metal cations. Both the acetylide carbides and intercalated graphites are technologically important. READ MORE

3. Study of Sulfide Capacity of Slag and Sulfur Removal from Hot Metal
Abstract : The present study aims at investigating the desulfurization process in hot metal and sulfide capacity of slags. The missing experimental data of sulfide capacities in Al2O3-CaOMgO-SiO2 system at 1713 K, 1743 K, 1773 K, 1823 K, 1873 K and in the Al2O3-CaO-SiO2 system at 1873 K were investigated under wellcontrolled oxygen potentials. 4. Computational Studies of Hydrogen Storage Materials : Physisorbed and Chemisorbed Systems
Abstract : This thesis deals with first-principles calculations based on density functional theory to investigate hydrogen storage related properties in various high-surface area materials and the ground state crystal structures in alkaline earth dicarbide systems. High-surface area materials have been shown to be very promising for hydrogen storage applications owing to them containing numerous hydrogen adsorption sites and good kinetics for adsorption/desorption. 5. Fundamental in-situ and ex-situ studies of energy storage related materials including different applications of voltammetry
Abstract : This thesis is a summary and discussion of eight papers dealing with failures and structural aspects of Ni-Cd industrial pocket plate batteries, applications of voltammetry in adsorption studies on goethite (a-FeOOH) surfaces and synthesis and characterisation of nanostructured carbons. The work consists of different areas of chemistry; electrochemistry, structural chemistry and solution chemistry. READ MORE
