  1. 1. Some aspects of non-metallic inclusions during vacuum degassing in ladle treatment : with emphasize on liquid CaO-Al2O3 inclusions

    Author : Young Jo Kang; Du Sichen; Takahiro Miki; KTH; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; non-metallic inclusions; ladle refining; vacuum degassing; ladle glaze; spinel; SiO2 activity; agglomeration; cold model; open-eye; inclusion removal; Metallurgical process engineering; Metallurgisk processteknik;

    Abstract : The present thesis was to study non-metallic inclusions during vacuum degassing in ladle treatment. Emphasize was mostly given to liquid CaO-Al2O3 inclusions. A series of industrial experiments were carried out at Uddeholm Tooling AB, Hagfors, Sweden. To gain an insight into the industrial findings, laboratory investigations were also performed. READ MORE

  2. 2. Slag, Steel, Ladle and Non-metallic Inclusions Equilibria in an ASEA-SKF Ladle Furnace

    Author : Kamrooz Riyahimalayeri; Malin Selleby; Johan Björkvall; KTH; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Clean steel; Top slag; Non-Metallic Inclusions; Oxides; Vacuum Degassing; Deoxidation; Desulphurization; Equilibrium; Computational Thermodynamics; Scanning electron microscopy;

    Abstract : This study explores the possibility of prediction and modification of some of the physicochemical properties of non-metallic inclusions by considering top slag-steel-ladle equilibria in an ASEA-SKF ladle furnace. To test the reliability of an available computational thermodynamic computer program, the first sub project was done. READ MORE

  3. 3. Formation of Inclusions and their Development during Secondary Steelmaking

    Author : Mikael Thunman; Du Sichen; Piotr Scheller; KTH; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Metallurgical manufacturing engineering; Metallurgisk produktionsteknik;

    Abstract : Al–O relations in iron were investigated. Pure iron with varying Al content was equilibrated at 1873 K. The oxygen content of iron with higher Al content than 1.0 mass % was found to be much lower than previous works, while the oxygen content for Al content less than 1 mass% was found to be slightly higher. 4. 4. Parameters influencing inclusion compositions in Al-killed steel melts during a secondary refining process

    Author : Takanori Yoshioka; Andrey Karasev; Pär Jönsson; Joohyun Park; KTH; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; non-metallic inclusion; ladle furnace; RH; thermodynamics; contact angle; Al2O3; MgO•Al2O3 spinel; calcium aluminate; CaS.;

    Abstract :      This study was carried out to clarify the factors influencing the evolution of inclusions in Al-killed steel melts during a secondary refining process. First, a case-hardening steel was the subject of study to understand the factors influencing the inclusion compositions in the steel melt. READ MORE

  5. 5. Heat transfer,inclusion characteristics and fluid flow phenomena during up-hill teeming

    Author : Robert Eriksson; KTH; []
    Keywords : Laser flash method; thermal diffusivity; slags; inclusions; water model; ingot casting; up-hill teeming;

    Abstract : Clean steel production requires good control of the sizedistribution and the composition of the inclusions at allstages of the steel making process. So far, there exists verylittle information on the behavior of the inclusion populationduring ingot casting of steel. READ MORE
