  1. 1. Heathlands – A Lost World?

    Author : Mattias Lindholm; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Heathland; Calluna vulgaris; Conservation biology; Management; Coleoptera; Carabidae; Lycosidae; Conservation strategy;

    Abstract : Heathland is a familiar landscape type in southwest Sweden. It is open with few trees, and the vegetation is dominated by dwarf-shrubs growing on nutrient-poor soils. Dry heaths with Heather Calluna vulgaris and wet heaths with Bell Heather Erica tetralix are common vegetation communities in the heathland, and they often form mosaics. READ MORE

  2. 2. The functional potential of methane producing and consuming microorganisms in a changing world : Den funktionella potentialen hos mikroorganismer som producerar och förbrukar metan i en föränderlig värld

    Author : Joel White; BECC: Biodiversity and Ecosystem services in a Changing Climate; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Methane; Metagenomics; Peatlands; flux; carbon dioxide; chamber measurements; stable isotope analysis; Eriophorum vaginatum; Calluna vulgaris; climate change; Captured metagenomics;

    Abstract : It’s clear that human activities have heated our climate via the release of anthropogenic greenhouse gases. Recent changes within the earth climate are rapid, intensifying, and unprecedented. READ MORE

  3. 3. Mountain vegetation in the Faroe Islands in a climate change perspective

    Author : Anna Maria Fosaa; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; klimatologi; marklära; Växtekologi; Fysisk geografi; climatology; cartography; pedology; geomorphology; climate change.; Physical geography; Raunkiær´s life-forms; biodiversity; Vegetation zones; plant communities; Plant ecology; kartografi; geomorfologi;

    Abstract : This thesis is a study of the mountain vegetation in the Faroe Islands based on five altitudinal transects sampled during the period 1999-2001. The vegetation was studied on the basis of plant communities, life-forms and biodiversity of vascular plant species and is discussed in a climate change perspective. READ MORE

  4. 4. The puzzle of forestry and cervid interactions : a missing piece is in the understory

    Author : Laura Juvany Canovas; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Shrubs of the family Ericaceae, including bilberry (Vaccinium myrtillus), cowberry (V. vitisidaea) and heather (Calluna vulgaris), often dominate the understory in Eurasian boreal and cold-temperate forests. READ MORE

  5. 5. The influence of soil pH on plant and microbial communities in sandy grasslands

    Author : Linda-Maria Mårtensson; Biodiversitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; in situ 13CO2 labelling; disturbance; sandy grasslands; species diversity; acidification; soil pH; microbial biomass; C allocation;

    Abstract : Sandy, calcareous grasslands are species rich temperate semi-natural grasslands. The species composition in 136 plots was analysed in relation to soil chemistry parameters; extractable P and N, soil pH and lime content. READ MORE
