16. Regulation of Islet Function by the Neuropeptide PACAP
Abstract : It is known that parasympathetic, sympathetic and sensory nerves innervate the islets and that these nerves harbor both classical neurotransmitters and neuropeptides. However, the neural influence on islet hormone release is complex and not yet fully understood A recently discovered pancreatic neuropeptide is pituitary adenylate cyclase-activating polypeptide (PACAP). 17. Dopamine D2 and D3 receptors. Studies on transduction mechanisms and on the role of a D3 gene polymorphism
Abstract : The neurotransmitter dopamine has been implicated in the pathophysiology of, e.g., Parkinson s disease and schizophrenia, and dopamine receptor-active compounds are commonly employed therapeutically in these and other disorders. READ MORE

18. Interplay between hormones, nutrients and adipose depots in the regulation of insulin sensitivity : an experimental study in rat and human adipocytes
Abstract : Obesity and specifically central obesity is related to insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes and other components of the so-called metabolic syndrome. The aim of this study was to elucidate the interplay between hormones, nutrients and adipose depots in normal and insulin-resistant fat cell metabolism. READ MORE

19. Mating type switching and transcriptional silencing in Kluyveromyces lactis
Abstract : To explore the similarities and differences of regulatory circuits among budding yeasts, we characterized the role of unscheduled meiotic gene expression 6 (UME6) and a novel mating type switching pathway in Kluyveromyces lactis. We found that Ume6 was required for transcriptional silencing of the cryptic mating-type loci HMLα and HMRa. READ MORE

20. Cytokines and bone : On the role of IL-1 and IL-6 in bone metabolism
Abstract : Cytokines such as interleukin-1 (IL-l) and interleukin-6 (IL-6) have been implicated in the pathogenesis of postmenopausal osteoporosis. The regulation of cytokine release is unclear, and the mechanism of cytokine induced bone resorption remains to be elucidated. READ MORE
