  1. 1. Biomarkers of one-carbon metabolism in colorectal cancer risk

    Author : Björn Gylling; Richard Palmqvist; Katarina Bälter; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Colorectal cancer; one-carbon metabolism; biomarkers; folate; epidemiology; Cancer Epidemiology; cancerepidemiologi;

    Abstract : One-carbon metabolism, a network of enzymatic reactions involving the transfer of methyl groups, depends on B-vitamins as cofactors, folate as a methyl group carrier, and amino acids, betaine, and choline as methyl group donors. One-carbon metabolism influences many processes in cancer initiation and development such as DNA synthesis, genome stability, and histone and epigenetic methylation. READ MORE

  2. 2. Circulating markers of risk and etiology in colorectal cancer

    Author : Justin Harbs; Sophia Harlid; Bethany van Guelpen; Xijia Liu; Henrik Grönberg; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Colorectal cancer; CRC; sex hormones; colon cancer; DNA methylation; proteomics; risk; etiology; Cancer Epidemiology; cancerepidemiologi;

    Abstract : Background: Colorectal cancer is the third most commonly diagnosed cancer in men and women. Worldwide around 2 million individuals are diagnosed each year – a number expected to increase as colorectal cancer risk factors become more prevalent. READ MORE

  3. 3. Antibiotics use in relation to colorectal cancer risk, survival and postoperative complications

    Author : Sai San Moon Lu; Bethany van Guelpen; Sophia Harlid; Jonas Ludvigsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; colorectal cancer; antibiotics; gut microbiome; dysbiosis; cancer-specific survival; surgical site infections; anastomotic leakage; register-based epidemiology; Cancer Epidemiology; cancerepidemiologi; Cancer Epidemiology; cancerepidemiologi; Oncology; onkologi; Surgery; kirurgi;

    Abstract : Background: Growing evidence suggests that antibiotic-induced dysbiosis of gut microbiota potentially contributes to colorectal cancer development and oncological outcomes. However, the role of antibiotics in colorectal cancer incidence, survival and postoperative outcomes at a population level remains incompletely understood. READ MORE

  4. 4. Metabolic Risk Factors and Molecular Subtypes of Colorectal Cancer

    Author : Robin Myte; Bethany van Guelpen; Richard Palmqvist; Jenny Häggström; Matty Weijenberg; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Colorectal cancer; risk factors; metabolic syndrome; one-carbon metabolism; molecular subtypes; KRAS; BRAF; MSI; molecular pathological epidemiology; Cancer Epidemiology; cancerepidemiologi;

    Abstract : Background: Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a heterogeneous disease developing from distinct pathways, resulting in tumor subtypes with large differences in clinical and molecular characteristics. Molecular characteristics are increasingly being used clinically to guide therapy. READ MORE

  5. 5. Trends in Prostate Cancer Mortality

    Author : Andri Wilberg Orrason; Pär Stattin; Alberto Briganti; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; prostate cancer; mortality; survival; death certificate; adjudication; lifetime risk; diagnosis; life expectancy; Urologi; Urology; Epidemiologi; Epidemiology; Cancer Epidemiology; Cancerepidemiologi;

    Abstract : In the early 20th century, cancer of the prostate was considered a rare and deadly disease with little to no possibility of cure. Since then, prostate cancer management has improved substantially with earlier detection, hormonal therapy, surgery and radiotherapy of the prostate. READ MORE
