  1. 1. Synthesis and Characterisation of Carbide Derived Carbons

    Author : Sigita Urbonaite; Gunnar Svensson; Mats Johnsson; Rik Brydson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Carbide derived carbons; Gas adsorption; EELS; Raman; Porous carbons; Chemistry; Kemi; strukturkemi; Structural Chemistry;

    Abstract : Carbide derived carbons (CDCs) have been synthesised through chlorination of VC, TiC, WC, TaC, NbC, HfC and ZrC at different temperatures. The aim of the investigation was to systematically study changes of structural and adsorption properties depending on the synthesis conditions. READ MORE

  2. 2. Assemblies of Colloidal Hydrochar Nanoparticles and their Derived Activated Carbons for CO2 Sorption

    Author : Xia Wang; Niklas Hedin; Gunnar Svensson; Oren Regev; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; colloids; hydrothermal carbonization; glucose; directed assembly; reactive infiltration; templating; silicon carbide; tricopper silicide; redispersion; nanoparticles; chemical activation; activated carbons; CO2 sorption; Materials Chemistry; materialkemi;

    Abstract : Carbon-rich colloids are of great fundamental and technological interest and in this thesis, I tested a range of hypotheses and studied aspects of small hydrochar-based colloids and their colloidal and material chemistry. Crude hydrochar dispersions were synthesized by hydrothermal carbonization of glucose and purified by dialysis. READ MORE

  3. 3. Analytical Electron Microscopy Studies for Development of New Carbon Based Materials

    Author : Staffan Wachtmeister; Stefan Csillag; Gilles Hug; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEM; EELS; CNx thin films; Carbide derived carbons; Gold deconvolution; Resolution improvement; Physics; Fysik; fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : The thesis presents transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS) studies of new carbon based materials synthesized with two different techniques. In the first project, nitrogen is incorporated into carbon nanostructures by supersonic cluster beam deposition (SCBD) to favor the formation of curved and cross-linked structures, ultimately aiming at creating a material with high hardness combined with good elasticity. 4. 4. Catalytic pyrolysis of lignin to produce fuels and functional carbon materials

    Author : Tong Han; Weihong Yang; Pär Jönsson; Anker Jensen; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Lignin; Catalytic Pyrolysis; Biooil; Hydrogen; Magnetic Activated Carbon; Lignin; katalystisk pyrolys; bioolja; vätgas; magnetiskt aktiverat kol.; Teknisk materialvetenskap; Materials Science and Engineering;

    Abstract : Development of renewable energy carriers and green adsorbents is an essential step in creating a fossil-free and toxin-free future of the world. Lignin is the second highest component of biomass and the only renewable resource of aromatics in nature. READ MORE
