  1. 6. Microdialysis Sampling, Electrochemical Detection and Mass Spectrometry of Carbohydrates in Monitoring Bioprocesses

    Author : Nelson Torto; Centrum för analys och syntes; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; monosaccharides; membrane; IPED; ion spray; probe internal geometry; extraction fraction; electrochemical oxidation; electrochemical detection; disaccharides; desalting; carbohydrates; bioprocess monitoring; Cu; APCI; Au; MS; oligosaccharides; PAD; PEI; Analytical chemistry; Analytisk kemi;

    Abstract : This thesis addresses; (1) the microdialysis experiment, application and methodology to maximise its performance when sampling from enzymatic bioprocesses, (2) electrochemical detection and electrochemical oxidation of carbohydrates on Au as well as Cu electrodes in alkaline solutions, and (3) coupling and maximising the performance of a microdialysis sampling based high performance anion exchange chromatography-integrated pulsed electrochemical detection-mass spectrometry system. Studies were carried out to investigate the effect of temperature, analyte as well as biomatrix complexity, analyte concentration, permeability factors, protein(enzyme)-membrane interaction and membrane material on the performance of microdialysis sampling. 2. 7. Synthesis and binding studies of 9,10-disubstituted anthracene and dibenzobarrelene-based receptors for recognition of carbohydrates in water

    Author : Hans Grundberg; Centrum för analys och syntes; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Organisk kemi; 2- trimethylsilyl ethyl sulfide; diastereoselectivity; water; carbohydrates; recognition; biomimetic; Artificial; receptor; Organic chemistry;

    Abstract : Artificial, amfiphilic, and biomimetic receptors soluble in water were synthesized via attaching polar amino acids to hydrophobic back-bones possessing a surface suitable for hydrophobic interactions. The hydrophobic back-bones chosen in this thesis were anthracene and dibenzobarrelene structures. READ MORE

    Author : Lingquan Deng; Olof Ramström; Javier Rojo; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Carbohydrates; Glycobiology; Carbohydrate-protein interactions; Perfluorophenylazide PFPA ; Photochemistry; Carbohydrate surface immobilization; Carbohydrate microarrays; Surface plasmon resonance SPR ; Quartz crystal microbalance QCM ; Atomic force microscopy AFM ; Glyconanomaterials; Concanavalin A Con A ; Cyanovirin-N CV-N ; 1-Glycosyl thiols; Mutarotation; 1-S-glycosylation; Stereocontrol;

    Abstract : This thesis mainly deals with the development of photochemical approaches to immobilize carbohydrates on surfaces for glycobiological studies. These approaches have been incorporated into a number of state-of-the-art nanobio-platforms, including carbohydrate microarrays, surface plasmon resonance (SPR), quartz crystal microbalance (QCM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), and glyconanomaterials.
