21. Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy in Industrial Hygiene Applications : Assessment of Emissions from and Exposures in Wood Processing Industries
Abstract : This thesis evaluates the use of Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) as an approach to the increasingly difficult air sampling challenges within the field of occupational and environmental hygiene. The application of FTIR is exemplified by the assessment of emissions from and exposures in the sawmill and pellet industries. READ MORE

22. Microwave-Assisted Synthesis of C2-Symmetric HIV-1 Protease Inhibitors : Development and Applications of In Situ Carbonylations and other Palladium(0)-Catalyzed Reactions
Abstract : The HIV protease is an essential enzyme for HIV replication and constitutes an important target in the treatment of HIV/AIDS. Efficient combination therapies using inhibitors of the reverse transcriptase and protease enzymes have led many to reevaluate HIV infections from a terminal condition to a chronic-but-manageable disease in the developed world. 23. Development of Methanol-Reforming Catalysts for Fuel Cell Vehicles
Abstract : Vehicles powered by proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuelcells are approaching commercialisation. Being inherently cleanand efficient sources of power, fuel cells constitute asustainable alternative to internal combustion engines to meetfuture low-emission legislation. READ MORE

24. Ground based measurements of upper atmospheric CO and H2O using microwave radiometry
Abstract : Long series of continuous measurements of middle and upper atmospheric constituents are needed to be able to understand the anthropogenic influence on the atmosphere. Phenomena like ozone depletion and the enhanced greenhouse effect are examples where the role of human activities has to be well investigated in order to make the right decisions of necessary changes in our way of life. 25. Energy-metabolic aspects of ischemia and pre-treatment: studies in porcine myocardium
Abstract : The focus of this thesis is to clarify mechanisms involved in protective pre-treatment of ischemia by carbon monoxide (CO) and ischemic preconditioning (IP), so that new pro-tective therapies can be designed. This is studied in heart muscle, where the clinical gain would ultimately be to be able to prolong the period during a threatened myocardial infarction where permanent injury can be prevented.
