  1. 11. Aspects of neonatal intensive care and anesthesia : Thermal balance and respiratory management

    Author : Victoria Karlsson; Johan Ågren; Lena Hellström-Westas; Filip Fredén; Valeria Perez de Sa; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neonatal; anesthesia; kangaroo-mother-care; skin-to-skin care; carbon dioxide;

    Abstract : This thesis is based on four articles originating from three studies conducted in the neonatal intensive care unit and the children’s operating deparment at Uppsala University Hospital, Sweden.The overall aim was to obtain new knowledge about thermal balance and care environment in extremely preterm infants during skin-to-skin care (SSC), evaluate different methods of intraoperative monitoring of carbon dioxide (CO2), and to investigate how different levels of inhaled oxygen affect infants’ oxygenation during anesthesia and surgery. 2. 12. The role of inland waters in the carbon cycle at high latitudes

    Author : Erik Lundin; Jan Karlsson; Reiner Giesler; Robert Striegl; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; lakes; streams; carbon C ; carbon dioxide CO2 ; methane CH4 ; dissolved inorganic carbon DIC ; boreal; sub-arctic; arctic; emission; sediments; burial; budget; limnologi; Limnology; Earth Sciences with Specialization Environmental Analysis; geovetenskap med inriktning mot miljöanalys; naturgeografi; Physical Geography;

    Abstract : Understanding the drivers of climate change requires knowledge about the global carbon (C) cycle. Although inland waters play an important role in the C cycle by emitting and burying C, streams and lakes are in general overlooked in bottom-up approached C budgets. READ MORE

  3. 13. Peatlands at a Threshold: Greenhouse Gas Dynamics in a Changing Climate

    Author : Magnus Lund; Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; chamber; greenhouse gas; nitrous oxide; methane; carbon dioxide; carbon; bog; Peatland; mire; eddy covariance; nitrogen; phosphorus; fertilization;

    Abstract : To be able to predict the strength of climate change and its consequences for mankind, it is of major importance to understand the contemporary greenhouse gas exchange of the terrestrial biosphere, as well as its response to changes in climate. To achieve such understanding both descriptive studies and manipulation experiments are required. READ MORE

  4. 14. Temporal and spatial variability of carbon cycling in a subarctic landscape

    Author : Torbjörn Johansson; Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Geologi; physical geography; Geology; Växtekologi; Plant ecology; Permafrost; Herbivory; Subarctic; Aerial photography; Vegetation change; Carbon balance; fysisk geografi;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with the carbon balance in a subarctic landscape at different temporal and spatial scales. Its focus is mainly on the peatland and mountain birch forest (Betula pubescens ssp. czerepanovii) ecosystems within the Abisko area in northernmost Sweden. This is an area with a temperature close to the 0 OC mean annual isotherm. READ MORE

  5. 15. Isotope-based source apportionment of black carbon aerosols in the Eurasian Arctic

    Author : Patrik Winiger; Örjan Gustafsson; Meinrat O. Andreae; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Black Carbon; Radiocarbon; Air Pollution; Arctic Amplification; Climate Change; Arctic Haze; Atmospheric Transport Modeling; Emission Inventory; Carbon Isotopes; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : Aerosols change the Earth's energy balance. Black carbon (BC) aerosols are a product of incomplete combustion of fossil fuels and biomass burning and cause a net warming through aerosol radiation interactions (ari) and aerosol cloud interactions (aci). READ MORE
