  1. 6. Gas Exchange over Aquatic Interfaces and its Importance for Greenhouse Gas Emission

    Author : Jovana Kokic; Sebastian Sobek; Erik Sahlée; Marcus B. Wallin; Anne Ojala; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; gas exchange; lake; stream; lake sediment; headwaters; carbon dioxide; methane; greenhouse gas emission; carbon; turbulence; Biology with specialization in Limnology; Biologi med inriktning mot limnologi;

    Abstract : Aquatic ecosystems play a substantial role in global cycling of carbon (C), despite covering only about 4% of the earth surface. They emit large amounts of greenhouse gases (GHG) to the atmosphere, comparable to the amount of C stored annually in terrestrial ecosystems. In addition, C can be buried in lake sediments. 2. 7. Greenhouse gas emission from tropical reservoirs : Spatial and temporal dynamics

    Author : Annika Linkhorst; Sebastian Sobek; Frédéric Guérin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; methane; carbon dioxide; climate; carbon cycle; lake; limnology; inland water;

    Abstract : The emission of methane (CH4) and carbon dioxide (CO2) from reservoirs has been estimated to make up for about 1.3% of the global anthropogenic greenhouse gas emission. The impoundment of a river leads to the accumulation of sediment that is brought in from inflowing rivers, and the sediment organic matter is degraded to CH4 and CO2. READ MORE

  3. 8. Essays on Energy and Climate Policy – Green Certificates, Emissions Trading and Electricity Prices

    Author : Anna Widerberg; Göteborgs universitet; []

    Abstract : Paper I: An Electricity Trading System with Tradable Green Certificates and CO₂-emission Allowances Combinations of various policy instruments to deal with the threat of climate change are used throughout the world. The aim of this article is to investigate an electricity market with two different policy instruments, Tradable Green Certificates (TGCs) and CO₂ emission allowances (an Emission Trading System, ETS). 4. 9. Carbon Dioxide Supersaturation in Lakes – Causes, Consequences and Sensitivity to Climate Change

    Author : Sebastian Sobek; Lars J. Tranvik; Yves Prairie; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biology; carbon dioxide; boreal lakes; respiration; dissolved organic carbon; climate change; Biologi; Biology; Biologi;

    Abstract : The global carbon cycle is intimately linked with the earth’s climate system. Knowledge about carbon cycling in the biosphere is therefore crucial for predictions of climate change. READ MORE
