  1. 1. Chemistry of Carbon Nanostructures : Functionalization of Carbon Nanotubes and Synthesis of Organometallic Fullerene Derivatives

    Author : Claes-Henrik Andersson; Helena Grennberg; Nazario Martín León; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Carbon nanotubes; Fullerenes; Purification; Functionalization; Organometallic complexes; Kemi med inriktning mot organisk kemi; Chemistry with specialization in Organic Chemistry;

    Abstract : This thesis is based on two main parts. The first part concerns purification and functionalization of carbon nanotubes (papers I-III), and the second part is related to the synthesis of organometallic fullerene derivatives (papers IV-VII): Two oxidative methods involving aqueous nitric acid were compared with respect to their capability to introduce carboxylic groups into single walled carbon nanotubes, and several literature methods for esterification and amidation of these groups have been evaluated with focus on efficiency and reproducibility in forming covalently functionalized products soluble in organic media. Abstract : Nanoscience is a well-established research area, which concerns properties and fabrication of objects with typical dimensions on the 1-100 nanometer length scale. A central issue has been the development of techniques for fabrication and characterization of nanometer sized objects, which have contributed considerably to progress in both practical applications and fundamental research. 4. 4. Towards the Integration of Carbon nanostructures into CMOS technology

    Author : Mohammad Kabir; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; transmission electron microscopy TEM .; chemical vapour deposition CVD ; electron beam lithography EBL ; carbon nanotube CNT ; silicidation; atomic force microscopy AFM ; carbon nanofiber CNF ; Complementary metal oxide semiconductor CMOS ; dc-glow discharge plasma; growth mechanism; metal catalyst; scanning electron microscopy SEM ;

    Abstract : Relentless efforts for miniaturization of traditional complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) devices have reached the limit where the device characteristics are governed by quantum phenomena which are difficult to control. This engendered a need for finding alternative new materials that can be engineered to fabricate devices that will possess at least the same or even better performance than existing CMOS devices. Abstract : The main objective of nanotechnology is to build self-powered nanosystems that are ultrasmall in size, exhibit super sensitivity, extraordinary multi functionality, and extremely low power consumption. As we all know that 21st century has brought two most important challenges for us. One is energy shortage and the other is global warming. READ MORE
