  1. 1. Environmental records of carbonaceous fly-ash particles from fossil-fuel combustion

    Author : Maria Wik; Lars Ericson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Carbonaceous particles; soot; anthropogenic particles; oil and coal combustion; fossil fuel combustion; lake sediments; lake acidification; forest soils; historical monitoring;

    Abstract : Fossil fuel combustion produces fly-ash particles that are released into the atmosphere and deposited in the environment. A particularly characteristic kind of fly-ash is spheroidal carbonaceous particles. They are composed of an amorphous carbon matrix in which other elements are dispersed. READ MORE

  2. 2. Development and Evaluation of Methods in Source Apportionment of the Carbonaceous Aerosol

    Author : Johan Martinsson; Kärnfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; carbonaceous aerosol; organic aerosol; aerosol particles; source apportionment; air pollution;

    Abstract : Carbonaceous aerosols are known to affect human health negatively and to affect the climate of Earth. As specific types of aerosols originate from specific sources, it is important to know the amount of aerosols emitted from each source. Aerosol source apportionment is an important tool in mitigating air pollution and improving air quality. READ MORE

  3. 3. Volcanic Aerosols in the Upper Troposphere and Stratosphere – Aircraft- and Satellite-Based Observations

    Author : Sandra Andersson; Kärnfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; carbonaceous aerosol; sulphate; ash; volcanic particles; upper troposphere; lowermost stratosphere; Stratospheric aerosol; volcanism; aerosol optical depth; radiative forcing; Fysicumarkivet A:2015:Andersson;

    Abstract : Volcanic eruptions are the largest source of variability in the stratospheric particle concentration as they inject SO2 that is subsequently converted into sulphate particles. No major perturbation of the stratospheric aerosol load has been observed since the large eruption of Pinatubo in 1991, but several moderate eruptions after 2000 have caused deviations from stratospheric background conditions. 4. 4. Measuring Elemental Carbon in Occupational Environments

    Author : Anna Wallén; Hans-Christen Hansson; Göran Lidén; Karine Elihn; Thomas Kuhlbusch; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : Diesel Exhaust Particles; Thermo-Optical Analysis; Black Carbon; Pyrolytic Carbon; Wood Smoke Particles; Water Soluble Organic Compounds; Asphalt Paving Work; Bio Fuels; Subway Aerosol; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : Carbonaceous aerosol particles from combustion, such as diesel exhaust particles (DEP), harm human health and affect the Earth’s radiative system.Elemental carbon (EC) has been proposed to be used as a marker of DEP. READ MORE

  5. 5. Source apportionment of carbonaceous aerosol - Measurement and model evaluation

    Author : Johan Genberg; Ergonomi och aerosolteknologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Aerosol particles are found in the whole troposphere. Research regarding these particles has gained increased attention because of the effect the particles have on both health and climate. In the atmosphere, aerosol particles scatter incoming solar radiation and this has a cooling effect on the Earth’s climate. READ MORE
