  1. 1. Molecular Insight into Ion-Specific Interactions : Vibrational Sum Frequency Study of the Carboxylic Acid Moiety

    Author : Adrien Sthoer; Eric Tyrode; Paul Cremer; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; specific ion effects; carboxylic acid; fatty acid Langmuir monolayer; vibrational sum frequency spectroscopy; VSFS; Electrical double layer;

    Abstract : Ion specific effects at charged interfaces find numerous applications in colloidal sciences and play a vital role in many biological processes. Despite having been studied for over a century, starting with the work of F. Hofmeister in the 1880s, a comprehensive molecular  understanding remains elusive. READ MORE

  3. 3. Quantitative in situ analysis of initial atmospheric corrosion of copper induced by carboxylic acids

    Author : Harveth Gil; Christofer Leygraf; Mark Rutland; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Atmospheric corrosion; carboxylic acids; copper; in situ; IRAS; QCM; coulometric reduction.; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Abstract : The interaction of carboxylic acids with copper is a phenomenon found both outdoors and, more commonly, indoors. The influence on copper of some carboxylic acids (formic, acetic, propionic, and butyric) have so far been studied at concentrations levels at least three or four orders of magnitude higher than actual indoor conditions (< 20 ppb, volume parts per billion), and with only limited emphasis on any mechanistic approach. 4. 4. Computational Investigation of Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells

    Author : Mattias Nilsing; Sten Lunell; Lars Ojamäe; Petter Persson; Sven Stafström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Quantum chemistry; titanium dioxide; anatase; rutile; pyridine; perylene; nanostructured; interface; electronic coupling; electron injection; quantum chemistry; phosphonic acid; Kvantkemi;

    Abstract : Interfaces between semiconductors and adsorbed molecules form a central area of research in surface science, occurring in many different contexts. One such application is the so-called Dye-Sensitized Solar Cell (DSSC) where the nanostructured dye-semiconductor interface is of special interest, as this is where the most important ultrafast electron transfer process takes place. 5. 5. Effects of Dietary Fibre and Probiotics on Hindgut Fermentation in Healthy Rats and in Rats with Dextran Sulphate Sodium-Induced Colitis and Colon Cancer

    Author : Camilla Bränning; Avdelningen för livsmedel och läkemedel; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; carboxylic acids; probiotics; short-chain fatty acids; hindgut fermentation; Colonic health; prebiotics; microbiota; dietary fibre;

    Abstract : The importance of colonic fermentation has been realised during recent years as it has been found to be associated with colonic health and thus the overall health of the individual. The fermentation of dietary fibre and the addition of probiotics can have positive effects on the luminal environment and the colonic microbiota. READ MORE
