  1. 1. In-Hospital Cardiac Arrest A Study of Education in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and its Effects on Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes among Healthcare Professionals and Survival of In-Hospital Cardiac Arrest Patients

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Abstract : This thesis investigated whether outcome after in-hospital cardiac arrest patients could be improved by a cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) educational intervention focusing on all hospital healthcare professionals.Annually in Sweden, approximately 3000 in-hospital patients suffer a cardiac arrest in which CPR is attempted, and which 900 will survive. Abstract : It is a major clinical problem that survival rates after out-of-hospital cardiac arrest have not markedly improved during the last decades, despite extensive research and the introduction of new interventions. However, recent studies have demonstrated promising treatments such as targeted temperature management (TTM) and methylene blue (MB). READ MORE

  3. 3. Induced hypothermia after cardiac arrest

    University dissertation from Lund University

    Author : Niklas Nielsen; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; [2010]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; complications; evidence; neurological outcome; survival; induced hypothermia; cardiac arrest; randomised trial; heart arrest;

    Abstract : This thesis is based on studies of the clinical use of induced hypothermia as an intervention to reduce mortality and neurological impairment after cardiac arrest. After the publication of two trials indicating benefit of induced hypothermia, we developed a registry to assess outcome, possible adverse events and conduct of induced hypothermia when this intervention was implemented in a clinical population of cardiac arrest patients. 4. 4. Post-Cardiac Arrest Care Therapeutic Hypothermia, Patient Outcomes and Relatives’ Experiences

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Ing-Marie Larsson; Uppsala universitet.; [2014]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cardiac arrest; therapeutic hypothermia; prognostication; outcome; quality of life; relatives; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Abstract : The overall aim of the thesis was to study post-resuscitation care of cardiac arrest (CA) patients with a focus on therapeutic hypothermia treatment, outcomes up to six months post-CA and relatives’ experiences during the hospital stay.In Paper I, the aim was to asses effectiveness of hypothermia treatment with cold, 4°C, intravenous crystalloid infusion combined with ice packs. 5. 5. Post Cardiac Arrest Care Evaluation of prognostic tools, Patient outcomes and Relatives’ experiences at 6 months after the event

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Ewa Wallin; Uppsala universitet.; [2015]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cardiac arrest; hypothermia; neurological outcome; cerebral oxygenation; MRI; relatives; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science;

    Abstract : The overall aim of the present thesis was to study post-resuscitation care of cardiac arrest (CA) patients treated with target temperature management 33°C with a focus on evaluation of two prognostic tools: variations in cerebral venous saturation and acute magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings on the brain post-CA. An additional aim was to investigate patients’ neurological outcome and relatives’ experiences 6 months after the event. READ MORE
