  1. 6. Nature conservation, landscape change and indigenous rights : The role of Sámi reindeer herding for environmental objectives in the Swedish mountain landscape

    Author : Carl Österlin; Ingrid Stjernquist; Peter Schlyter; Camilla Eriksson; Urban Emanuelsson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Land use planning; Cumulative Effects; Reindeer herding; Natural resource extraction; Environmental Management; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Abstract : The 14th Swedish national environmental objective, ‘a Magnificent Mountain Landscape’, requires a mountain landscape characterized by reindeer grazing. The Swedish mountains landscape, part of the Scandes, has been shaped by traditional indigenous Sámi reindeer herding and its grazed environments are dependent on reindeer. READ MORE

  2. 7. Nitrogen land-sea fluxes in the Baltic Sea catchment : Empirical relationships and budgets

    Author : Hanna Eriksson Hägg; Christoph Humborg; Carl-Magnus Mörth; Hans Borg; Sybil Seitzinger; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Nitrogen fluxes; Baltic Sea; primary emissions; riverine export; Scenario analysis; climate change; animal protein consumption; fertilizer use; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : In this thesis empirical relationships and modeling tools are used to describe the relationship between human activities and meso- and large scale riverine N fluxes from land to sea. On a large scale Paper I showed that by only having knowledge about human population size and runoff one can estimate the riverine export of DIN (r2= 0.76). READ MORE

  3. 8. On Risk Management of Electrical Distribution Systems and the Impact of Regulations

    Author : Carl Johan Wallnerström; Lina Bertling; Roland Eriksson; Kjell Sand; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Electrical Distribution System; Maintenance Management; Project Planning; Regulation; Reliability Analysis; Reliability Centred Maintenance RCM ; Reliability Centered Asset Management RCAM ; Risk Analysis; Risk Management; Risk Methods; the Network Performance Assessment Model NPAM ; Electric power engineering; Elkraftteknik;

    Abstract : The Swedish electricity market was de-regulated in 1996, followed by new laws and a new regulation applied to the natural monopolies of electrical distribution systems (EDS). These circumstances have motivated distribution systems operators (DSOs) to introduce more comprehensive analysis methods. READ MORE

  4. 9. Supporting Learning and Teaching of Chemistry in the Undergraduate Classroom

    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; undergraduate chemistry education; learning and teaching processes; didactic triangle; chemical bonding; tutor-student interaction; practical epistemology analysis; continuity; progression; purposes; naturvetenskapsämnenas didaktik; Science Education;

    Abstract : There is agreement in research about the need to find better ways of teaching chemistry to enhance students’ understanding. This thesis aims to contribute to the understanding of how we better support teaching and learning of undergraduate chemistry to make it meaningful and intelligible for students from the outset. 5. 10. An epidemiological perspective on heart and lung weight in cardiac and intoxication deaths

    Author : Torfinn Beer; Carl Johan Wingren; Anders Eriksson; Britt-Marie Stålnacke; Kimberly Molina; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; heart weight; lung weight; organ weight; autopsy; forensic pathology; Bayesian analysis; cardiac hypertrophy; fatal intoxication; Forensic Medicine; rättsmedicin;

    Abstract : The main purpose of a medico-legal autopsy is to determine the cause and manner of death. A forensic pathologist makes assessments of this using several sources of information, one of which is the discrepancy between measured organ weight and reference values. READ MORE
