  1. 1. Cancer and calcium : epidemiological studies of cancer incidence and survival

    Author : Cat Halthur; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Studies have shown that there could be an association between dietary calcium and cancer, and more specifically it has been suggested that serum calcium is involved in the etiology of cancers of the prostate. In order to explore this association we performed epidemiological studies of the association between pre-diagnostic serum calcium and prostate cancer incidence and survival. READ MORE

  2. 2. Towards improvement of geometrical quality for manual assembly parts

    Author : Mikael Rosenqvist; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; calculation model; geometry system; Interview; assessment; action cost.; assembly; error; ergonomics; assembly complexity; design for assembly; robust design; complexity; manual assembly; sustainable; tolerance analysis and design; CAT; quality; failure; action cost; assembly ergonomics;

    Abstract : Geometrical variation affects all mass-produced products. This variation will lead to deviations from the nominal design of the product both in terms of aesthetical and functional properties. Geometrical variation originates either from the manufacturing of the parts or from the assembly process. 3. 3. Neuronal networks involved in low back pain; experimental studies

    Author : Elin Nilsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; low back pain; disc herniation; pyramidal tract; reticulospinal tract; longissimus muscle; nucleus pulposus; VPL; thalamus; rat; cat;

    Abstract : Low back pain is a common cause of disability, with a lifetime prevalence of up to 80%. A lumbar disc herniation, involving a bulging disc and/or leakage of the intervertebral disc’s nucleus pulposus, may be a possible cause of back and sciatic pain. Low back pain has also been associated with dysfunctional control of the paraspinal muscles. READ MORE

  4. 4. Monoaminergic modulation in spinal reflex pathways from group I afferents

    Author : Ingela Hammar; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : primary afferents; spinal interneurones; ventral spinocerebellar tract neurones; noradrenaline; serotonin; cat;

    Abstract : Serotonin and noradrenaline are known to play an important part in modulation of spinal neuronal networks. Group I muscle afferents mediate information on dynamic changes of muscle length and tension, and modulation of actions from these afferents could be of importance for the execution of movements. 5. 5. Intracellular systems for characterization and engineering of proteases and their substrates

    Author : George Kostallas; Stefan Ståhl; Patrik Samuelson; Matthew DeLisa; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; proteases; flow cytometry; GFP; CAT; protein engineering; ssrA; ClpXP; tobacco etch virus; TEV; site-specific; high-throughput; selection; proteolysis; libraries; Bioengineering; Bioteknik; SRA - Molecular Bioscience; SRA - Molekylär biovetenskap;

    Abstract : Over the years, the view on proteases as relatively non-specific protein degradation enzymes, mainly involved in food digestion and intracellular protein turnover, has shifted and they are now recognized as key regulators of many biological processes that determine the fate of a cell. Besides their biological role, proteases have emerged as important tools in various biotechnical, industrial and medical applications. READ MORE
