  1. 1. Data Driven Visual Recognition

    Author : Omid Aghazadeh; Stefan Carlsson; Jiri Matas; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Visual Recognition; Data Driven; Supervised Learning; Mixture Models; Non-Parametric Models; Category Recognition; Novelty Detection;

    Abstract : This thesis is mostly about supervised visual recognition problems. Based on a general definition of categories, the contents are divided into two parts: one which models categories and one which is not category based. We are interested in data driven solutions for both kinds of problems. READ MORE

  2. 2. Perceptually motivated speech recognition and mispronunciation detection

    Author : Christos Koniaris; Olov Engwall; Martin Cooke; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; feature extraction; feature selection; auditory models; MFCCs; speech recognition; distortion measures; perturbation analysis; psychoacoustics; human perception; sensitivity matrix; pronunciation error detection; phoneme; second language; perceptual assessment;

    Abstract : This doctoral thesis is the result of a research effort performed in two fields of speech technology, i.e., speech recognition and mispronunciation detection. Although the two areas are clearly distinguishable, the proposed approaches share a common hypothesis based on psychoacoustic processing of speech signals. READ MORE

  3. 3. Stereotypes: Suppression, Forgetting, and False Memory

    Author : Tadesse Araya; Georg Stenberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Social psychology; Stereotype suppression; stereotype control; prejudice; priming; directed forgetting; DRM paradigm; false recall; false recognition; Socialpsykologi; Psychology; Psykologi; Psychology; psykologi;

    Abstract : This thesis presents four studies investigating (1) whether incidentally primed control-related words can attenuate the impact of activated stereotypes on subsequent evaluation of a target person, (2) the impact of motivated forgetting on the recall of stereotypically congruent and incongruent information, and (3) the impact of a directed forgetting instruction on the false recall and recognition of nonpresented stereotypical information.In three experiments, Study I showed that participants initially primed with the social category, immigrant, and subsequently primed with words that were evocative of control or self-control made less negative impression of a target displaying ambiguous behaviors than participants not exposed to such words. 4. 4. Topics in Content Based Image Retrieval : Fonts and Color Emotions

    Author : Martin Solli; Reiner Lenz; Jan Erik Solem; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; image analysis; content based image retrieval; font recognition; color emotions; Image analysis; Bildanalys;

    Abstract : Two novel contributions to Content Based Image Retrieval are presented and discussed. The first is a search engine for font recognition. The intended usage is the search in very large font databases. The input to the search engine is an image of a text line, and the output is the name of the font used when printing the text. 5. 5. Is consumer decision-making out of control? : non-conscious influences on consumer decision-making for fast moving consumer goods

    Author : Jens Nordfält; Handelshögskolan i Stockholm; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Most literature on consumer decision-making concentrate on which attributes a certain brand evokes, how a brand is evaluated, or how well a brand can stand the competition of another brand. This is a bit funny since one of the most obvious aspects of decision-making for fast moving consumer goods (FMCGs) is that most products are never considered. READ MORE
