  1. 1. Nitride Thin Films for Thermoelectric Applications : Synthesis, Characterization and Theoretical Predictions

    Author : Mohammad Amin Gharavi; Per Eklund; Rickard Armiento; Björn Alling; Camille Pallier; Caterina Zanella; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : Thermoelectrics is the reversible process which transforms a temperature gradient across a material into an external voltage through a phenomenon known as the Seebeck effect. This has resulted in niche applications such as solid-state cooling for electronic and optoelectronic devices which exclude the need for a coolant or any moving parts and long-lasting, maintenance-free radioisotope thermoelectric generators used for deep-space exploration. 2. 2. Control of particles codeposition and strengthening mechanisms in nickel based nanocomposite coatings

    Author : Santiago Pinate; Caterina Zanella; Peter Leisner; Mari Lindström; Jönköping University; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Dispersion coatings; nanocomposite; Controlled particles codeposition; Surface treatment; ζ-potentials; Pulse-reverse deposition; Ultrasound agitation; Electrocrystallisation; Microstructure; Strengthening mechanisms; Hardness; Wear; Dispersionsbeläggning; nanokomposit; kontrollerad inkorporering av partiklar; ytbehandling; zeta-potential; bipolär pulsplätering; ultraljudsomrörning; elektrokristallisation; mikrostruktur; härdningsmekanism; hårdhet; nötning;

    Abstract : Surface durability is a key factor in the service life of components. Depending on the aggressiveness of the environment, surface deterioration by wear or corrosion leads to failure of the bulk material and eventually to the loss of functionality of the component. READ MORE

  3. 3. Study of particle-current-electrocrystallization interactions in electroplating of Ni/SiC coatings

    Author : Santiago Pinate; Caterina Zanella; Peter Leisner; Jönköping University; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Composite coatings; Nanoparticles; Electrocrystallisation; Microstructure; Surface treatment; Pulse plating; Ultrasound agitation; Kompositbeläggningar; Nanopartiklar; Elektrokristallisering; Mikrostruktur; Ytbehandling; Pulsplätering; Ultraljudsomrörning;

    Abstract : Composite coatings have great potential due to the possibility to combine properties of two different materials in one coating. This way, new surface properties can be tailored and applied to any material's surface. READ MORE

  4. 4. An Insight into the Critical Role of Microstructure and Surface Preparation on Localized Conversion Coating Deposition on Cast Al Alloys

    Author : Salil Sainis; Caterina Zanella; Ehsan Ghassemali; Marjorie Olivier; Jönköping University; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; aluminium alloys; cast Al-Si alloys; conversion coating treatment; cerium; localized deposition; surface preparation; microstructure; SEM; FIB-SEM; AFM-SKPFM; Aluminiumlegeringar; gjutna Al-Si legeringar; Cerium; lokal deposition; omvandlingsbeläggningsbehandling; förbehandling av yta; mikrostruktur; SEM; FIB-SEM; AFM-SKPFM;

    Abstract : The spontaneous cerium conversion coating formation over aluminium alloys is affected by the chemical process conditions, the surface preparation prior to conversion treatment and the microstructure of the underlying alloy. Most research performed until now focus only on the former whereas the influence of the latter two is poorly understood. READ MORE

  5. 5. The influence of Al alloy microstructure on conversion coating formation

    Author : Salil Sainis; Caterina Zanella; Ehsan Ghassemali; Jönköping University; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; aluminium alloys; cast Al-Si alloys; conversion coating treatment; cerium; localized deposition; surface pre-treatments; microstructure; SEM; FIB-SEM; AFM-SKPFM; aluminiumlegeringar; gjutna Al-Si legeringar; omvandlingsbeläggningar; cerium; lokaliserad deposition; ytförbehandlingar; microstruktur SEM; FIB-SEM; AFM-SKPFM;

    Abstract : The formation of conversion coatings based on Ce, trivalent Cr and Ti/Zr is triggered by the local pH increase at cathodic IM sites of the aluminium alloy microstructure. The pH gradient is created over the cathodic intermetallic (IM) sites of the microstructure and its intensity is influenced by their activity which depends on their chemical composition, their size, and spatial distribution.
