  1. 1. Flocculation with Polyelectrolytes in Latex and Microbial Systems

    Author : Leif Eriksson; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; floc strength; shear sensitivity; fractal dimension; floc structure; patch flocculation; adhesion; bridging; flocculation; charge compensation; adsorption; ionic strength; molecular weight; charge density; Cationic polyelectrolytes; latex; bacteria; activ; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi;

    Abstract : Adsorption of cationic polyelectrolytes onto polystyrene latices was studied as function of polymer chemical composition and molecular weight, polymer and surface charge density and ionic strength. The ratio between polymer charges and surface charges was close to one when distances between polymer and surface charges were equal. READ MORE

  2. 2. Polyelectrolytes on Surfaces and their Complexes with Surfactants, Thermodynamics versus kinetics

    Author : Yulia Samoshina; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fysikalisk kemi; Polymer technology; Physical chemistry; SDS; amphiphilic polyelectrolytes; ellipsometry; reversibility; kinetics of adsorption; polyelectrolytes at solid-liquid interface; polyelectrolyte-oppositely charged surfactant complexes; biopolymers; Polymerteknik;

    Abstract : The interfacial properties of polyelectrolytes, mainly cationic with various content of amphiphilic groups, and their complexes with an oppositely charged surfactant, sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), have been investigated using time-resolved ellipsometry. This thesis focuses on the kinetics and reversibility aspects of polymer adsorption and the control of the adsorption by regulating the electrostatic interactions. READ MORE

  3. 3. Polyelectrolyte adsorption on oppositely charged surfaces - Conformation and adsorption kinetics

    Author : Lars-Erik Enarsson; Lars Wågberg; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Polyelectrolyte adsorption; adsorption kinetics; adsorption isotherms; conformation; bridging; stagnation point adsorption reflectometry; quartz crystal microgravimetry; polyelectrolyte titration; cationic polyacrylamide; cationic dextran; colloidal silica; silica surfaces; pulp; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Abstract : Denna avhandling presenterar experimentella studier av polyelektrolytadsorption på motsatt laddade ytor, där substrat av både kiseloxid och blekt barrsulfatmassa har använts. Ett huvudsakligt syfte med denna forskning var att karaktärisera konformationen hos adsorberade skikt av katjonisk polyakrylamid (CPAM) i jämförelse med katjonisk dextran (Cdextran) och relatera denna information till inbindningskapaciteten av kolloidal kiselsyra. 4. 4. Association and Microstructure in Self-Assembling Catanionic Systems

    Author : Eduardo Marques; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; PFG NMR self-diffusion; cryogenic-transmission electron microscopy; catanionic systems; gels; bile salts; polyelectrolytes; liquid crystals; vesicles; Surfactants; phase diagrams; light microscopy; Theoretical chemistry; quantum chemistry; Teoretisk kemi; kvantkemi;

    Abstract : This thesis addresses the phase behavior and phase structure in mixed surfactant-surfactant and surfactant-polymer systems, where the co-solutes have opposite charges (catanionic systems). The initial goal has been to investigate self-assembly aspects in mixtures of single-/double-chained surfactants and bile salt/double-chained surfactants, with the main focus on vesicle assembly in dilute regions. 5. 5. Tailored layer-by-layer films of nanofibrillated cellulose

    Author : Erdem Karabulut; Lars Wågberg; Lennart Piculell; Eva Blomberg; KTH; []
    Keywords : layer-by-layer assembly; nanofibrillated cellulose; thin film; surface adsorption; polyelectrolytes;

    Abstract : The preparation of multifunctional films, coatings and membranes from natural, sustainable and low-cost raw materials has attracted considerable interest during the last decade. In this respect, cellulose-based products possess a great promise for research and industry due both to the availability of large amounts of material in nature and to the preparation of new classes of nano-sized and well-characterized building-blocks of cellulose from trees or annual plants.
