    Abstract : This dissertation is about a complex of problems, related to the question: ‘Can we ever act differently from how we in fact act?’In Part I, the meaning of ‘can’ and ‘could’ is discussed. It is argued that when we say that an agent could do something he didn’t do (in a sense of ‘could’ involving control), this means, in what is called ‘Decision-Contexts’, that he was conditionally free to do it, and, in what is called ‘Strong-Autonomy-Contexts’, that he was categorically free to do it. 2. 2. On the cylindrically symmetric Einstein-Vlasov system

    Author : Mikael Fjällborg; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : For the cylindrically symmetric ''asymptotically flat'' Einstein equations in the case of electro-vacuum it is known that solutions exist globally and even that this class of spacetimes are causally geodesically complete. Hence the strong cosmic censorship holds for this class. READ MORE

  4. 4. Preterm intraventricular cerebral hemorrhage: role of cell-free hemoglobin

    Author : Alex Adusei Agyemang; Lund Pediatrik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Intraventricular hemorrhage; Preterm birth; Haptoglobin; Alpha 1 microglobulin; cerebellar hypoplasia; periventricular white matter; cell-free hemoglobin;

    Abstract : Cerebral intraventricular hemorrhage in preterm infants continues to be a major clinical problem associated with neurodevelopmental abnormalities manifested by cognitive, behavioral, attentional, social and motor deficits. Hypothesis and aims: The central thesis is that the cytotoxicity of extravasated blood and of consequently released cell-free hemoglobin(Hb) is pivotal for the pathophysiological events causally involved in brain injury. 5. 5. The relationship between reduced renal function and cardiovascular disease

    Author : Patrik Svensson; Kardiovaskulär forskning - hypertoni; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; eGFR; creatinine; cystatin C; CKD-EPI; CKD; CVD; Genetics; Blood Pressure; Hypertension;

    Abstract : This thesis examines the relationship between measures of renal function and cardiovascular disease (CVD) in patients with hypertension (the NORDIL study) and in the healthy population (Malmö Diet and Cancer Study, MDC) and whether antihypertensive treatment response and the risk of CVD is affected by genetic variation of a regulator of the renal amiloroide sensitive sodium channel (NORDIL). In study 1 we tested creatinine, estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) with Cockroft-Gault (CG) and the MDRD equations and also microalbuminuria (MA) as predictors of CVD, stroke and CVD death.
