  1. 1. YBa2Cu3O7-δ Biepitaxial and Step Edge Josephson Junctions on MgO Substrates. SQUID Amplifier

    Author : Jaime Ramos; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; step edge junction; noise; biepitaxial junction; energy resolution; high-TC superconductor; dc SQUID; YBa2Cu3O7; laser deposition; CeO2; amplifier; Germany; sapphire; MgO;

    Abstract : This thesis concerns the preparation of Josephson junctions and their applications in Superconducting Quantum Interference Devices (SQUIDs). High temperature superconductors were used for operation at 77 K, the boiling temperature of liquid nitrogen. READ MORE

  2. 2. Dissolution of fluorite type surfaces as analogues of spent nuclear fuel : Production of suitable analogues and study the effect of surface orientation on dissolution

    Author : Jose Godinho; Sandra Piazolo; Tonci Balic-Zunic; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; fluorite; spent nuclear fuel; crystal structure; CeO2; CaF2; crystal orientation; topography; confocal profilometry; Mineralogy; Mineralvetenskap; Geology; geologi;

    Abstract : It is accepted worldwide that the best final solution for spent nuclear fuel is to bury it in deep geological repositories. Despite the physical and chemical barriers that are supposed to isolate the nuclear waste for at least 100.000 years, some uncertainty factors may cause underground water to get in contact with the nuclear waste. Abstract : Cerium dioxide, or ceria, is a chemically stable oxygen ion conducting material with a capacity to store and release oxygen, and is therefore extensively used in combustion catalysts. The Cu-Ce-O system has been identified as one of the most active catalysts for the combustion of carbon monoxide. READ MORE

  4. 4. Configurational Thermodynamics of the CeO2-Gd2O3 System : A Combined DFT, Cluster Expansion and Monte Carlo Approach to Bulk and Interfaces

    Author : Pjotrs A. Žguns; Natalia V. Skorodumova; Andrei V. Ruban; María Verónica Ganduglia-Pirovano; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : In this thesis, we study the configurational thermodynamics of Ce1-xGdxO2-x/2 x ≤ 1 or CGO. We apply a combined Density Functional Theory (DFT), cluster expansion and Monte Carlo (MC) approach in which the configurational energy of CGO is described by means of the Ising-type Hamiltonian.
