16. Stochastic modelling and analysis of early mouse development
Abstract : The aim of this thesis is to model and describe dynamical events for biological cells using statistical and mathematical tools. The thesis includes five papers that all relate to stochastic modelling of cells. READ MORE

17. High-throughput screening using multicellular tumor spheroids to reveal and exploit tumor-specific vulnerabilities
Abstract : High-throughput drug screening (HTS) in live cells is often a vital part of the preclinical anticancer drug discovery process. So far, two-dimensional (2D) monolayer cell cultures have been the most prevalent model in HTS endeavors. However, 2D cell cultures often fail to recapitulate the complex microenvironments of in vivo tumors. READ MORE

18. Identification of Unique Hematopoietic Stem Cell Properties
Abstract : Hematopoietic stem cells (HSC) are sufficient and required for life long production of all blood cell lineages. Steady state HSCs are largely quiescent and we demonstrate that the kinetics of HSC cell cycling are slower compared to more committed progenitor cells also during expansion and self-renewal ex vivo and in physiological conditions. 19. Novel Insights into Haematopoietic Stem Cell Regulation and Function
Abstract : The haematopoietic stem cell (HSC) is a somatic stem cell essential for life long haematopoiesis; HSCs have the capability to differentiate into all mature types of blood cells and can also undergo self-renewal to maintain their own numbers. They also have the potential to reconstitute a complete haematopoietic system following HSC transplantation, also known as bone marrow transplantation, which is used to treat many haematopoietic disorders. 20. The Role of Microvascular Pericytes in the Generation of Pro-fibrotic Connective Tissue Cells : Investigations in vitro and in Reactive Tissues in vivo
Abstract : Pericytes are cells of mesenchymal origin located on the abluminal side, juxtapositioned to the endothelial cells in capillaries, venules and small arterioles. They are important for maintaining vessel integrity in resting tissues as well as the formation and stabilization of new vessels. READ MORE
