  1. 21. Cell cycle analysis of archaea

    Author : Andrzej Poplawski; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cell and molecular biology; Cell- och molekylärbiologi; Cell and molecular biology; Cell- och molekylärbiologi; mikrobiologi; Microbiology;

    Abstract : In my thesis, the cell cycle analysis of archaea and hyperthermophilic organisms is presented for the first time. Crenarchaea from the genus Sulfolobus were used as a model system. Plow cytometry and light microscopy were applied to investigate the timing and coordination of different cell cycle events. READ MORE

  2. 22. Cell division in Escherichia coli

    Author : Karl Skoog; Daniel O. Daley; Miguel Vicente; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Abstract : The Gram-negative bacterium Escherichia coli is a model system to describe the biochemistry and cell biology of cell division in bacteria. This process can be divided into three major steps. The first step involves the replication of the DNA, followed by an elongation step in which the cells become twice as long. READ MORE

  3. 23. Characterization of New Players in Planar Polarity Establishment in Arabidopsis

    Author : Stefano Pietra; Markus Grebe; Niko Geldner; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; SABRE; planar polarity; CLASP; cell division orientation; microtubule cytoskeleton; actin; AIP1; patterning; Developmental Biology; miljömedicinsk utvecklingsbiologi;

    Abstract : Coordinated polarity and differentiation of cells in the plane of a tissue layer are essential to the development of multicellular organisms. Arabidopsis thaliana root hairs and trichomes provide model systems to study the pathways that control planar polarity and cell fate specification in plants. READ MORE

  4. 24. The significance of ethylene and ETHYLENE RESPONSE FACTORS in wood formation of hybrid aspen

    Author : Bernard Wessels; Hannele Tuominen; Judith Felten; Totte Niittylä; Kurt Fagerstedt; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ethylene; wood formation; hybrid aspen; Populus; ETHYLENE RESPONSE FACTOR; ERF85; ERF139; cambium; lignin; xylem expansion; secondary cell wall; tension wood; cambial derivative cell fate; vessel element; time-lapse photography; molekylär bioteknik inst f nat vet biokemi ; molecular biotechnology dept of biochem ; genetik; Genetics; Physiological Botany; fysiologisk botanik;

    Abstract : The woody tissues serve to stabilise plants, store nutrients and translocate water and minerals. The formation of wood, or ’secondary xylem’, follows a well-defined developmental gradient which is initiated by cell division activity in the vascular cambium. READ MORE

  5. 25. Nanowires in Cell Biology

    Author : Henrik Persson; Fasta tillståndets fysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; phase holographic microscopy; Nanowires; living cells; cell injection; Fysicumarkivet A:2014:Persson;

    Abstract : This thesis explores the interactions between cells and nanowires, to increase our understanding of how cells are affected and how they can be manipulated by these one-dimensional, semiconductor crystals (lengths 1-10 µm, diameters .... READ MORE
