  1. 6. Label-free processing of stem cell preparations by acoustophoresis

    Author : Franziska Olm; Avdelningen för molekylär hematologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; acoustophoresis; label-free cell separation; ultrasound; microfluidics; stem cell processing; CTC separation;

    Abstract : The first bone marrow transplant in a human was performed in 1959, providing evidence that cells can be used for transplantation and treatment, revealing that healing capacities lie within the human body that ought to be understood. Since then hematopoietic stem cell transplantation has developed as a standard treatment for many cancers besides other malignancies. READ MORE

  2. 7. Cell Behavior and the Role of Profilin

    Author : Yu Li; Roger Karlsson; Christophe Ampe; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; cellbiologi; Cellbiology;

    Abstract : Profilin is a key regulator of the microfilament system. It binds to actin monomers in a 1:1 complex, forming the profilin:actin complex, which is the major precursor of actin for filament formation in vivo. The distribution of profilin has been studied in a variety of cells. It is present not only in the cytoplasm but also in the nucleus. READ MORE

  3. 8. Regulation of cytokine-induced nitric oxide production in insulin-producing cells

    Author : Malin Flodström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell biology; Diabetes; pancreatic islets; insulin-producing cells; cytokines; nitric oxide; inducible nitric oxide synthase; nuclear factor-kappaB; interferon regulatory factor-1; arginine; citrulline; argininosuccinate synthetase; insulin release; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; medicinsk cellbiologi; Medical Cell Biology;

    Abstract : Cytokine-induced expression of the inducible form of nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and production of nitric oxide (NO) may contribute to pancreatic β-cell damage during the development of type 1 diabetes. iNOS catalyses the conversion of arginine into citrulline and NO, a reaction regulated by the amount of expressed iNOS enzyme and by the cellular availability of arginine. 4. 9. Methods for cell line and protein engineering

    Author : Magnus Lundqvist; Johan Rockberg; Mathias Uhlén; Diethard Mattanovich; KTH; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell line development; therapeutic proteins; protein engineering; molecular cloning; mutagenesis; split-GFP; Bioteknologi; Biotechnology;

    Abstract : Therapeutic proteins are becoming increasingly important. They are desirable, as they typically possess low adverse effects and higher specificity compared to the traditional, small molecule drugs. But they are also more complex and involve different intricate and expensive development and production processes. READ MORE

  5. 10. The mechanism of integrin inactivation and cell signalling induced by c-erbB2, an oncogenic growth factor receptor

    Author : Shahram Hedjazifar; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; c-erbB2; integrin á2â1; cell-matrix; integrin conformation; PKB; ERK; Rho; ILK; Nck-2;

    Abstract : Overexpression of the oncogenic growth factor receptor, c-erbB2, is linked with poor prognosis in breast carcinomas and is used as a target for therapeutic strategies. To elucidate the mechanism underlying the tumorigenic action of an elevated c-erbB2 level, leading to homodimerization and activation, we have used an inducible system where a hybrid receptor consisting of the cytoplasmic and transmembrane domains of c-erbB2 fused to the extracellular domain of the trkA NGF receptor has been stably transfected into an immortalized mammary epithelial cell line.
