  1. 16. Satellite cells in human skeletal muscle : molecular identification quantification and function

    Author : Mona Lindström; Lars-Eric Thornell; Hannu Kalimo; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; satellite cell markers; NCAM; Pax7; MyoD; myogenin; DLK1 FA1; c-Met; human skeletal muscle; immunohistochemistry; muscle growth; muscle hypertrophy; Morphology; cell biology; pathology; Morfologi; cellbiologi; patologi; anatomi; Human Anatomy;

    Abstract : Skeletal muscle satellite cells located between the plasma membrane and the basal lamina of muscle fibres, could for many years, only be studied in situ by electron microscopy. The introduction of immunohistochemistry and the discovery of molecular markers of satellite cells then made them accessible for light microscopic studies and a wealth of information is today available. 2. 17. The mechanism of integrin inactivation and cell signalling induced by c-erbB2, an oncogenic growth factor receptor

    Author : Shahram Hedjazifar; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; c-erbB2; integrin á2â1; cell-matrix; integrin conformation; PKB; ERK; Rho; ILK; Nck-2;

    Abstract : Overexpression of the oncogenic growth factor receptor, c-erbB2, is linked with poor prognosis in breast carcinomas and is used as a target for therapeutic strategies. To elucidate the mechanism underlying the tumorigenic action of an elevated c-erbB2 level, leading to homodimerization and activation, we have used an inducible system where a hybrid receptor consisting of the cytoplasmic and transmembrane domains of c-erbB2 fused to the extracellular domain of the trkA NGF receptor has been stably transfected into an immortalized mammary epithelial cell line. 3. 18. Coping with Stress : Regulation of the Caulobacter crescentus cell cycle in response to environmental cues

    Author : Kristina Heinrich; Kristina Jonas; Emanuele Biondi; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Caulobacter crescentus; bacteria; cell cycle; stress; filamentation; cell morphology; DNA replication; cell division; molekylär biovetenskap; Molecular Bioscience;

    Abstract : All organisms have to respond to environmental changes to maintain cellular and genome integrity. In particular, unicellular organisms like bacteria must be able to analyze their surroundings and rapidly adjust their growth mode and cell cycle program in response to environmental changes, such as changes in nutrient availability, temperature, osmolarity, or pH. 4. 19. Live Single Cell Imaging and Analysis Using Microfluidic Devices

    Author : Mohammad Ali Khorshidi; Helene Andersson-Svahn; Håkan Jönsson; Carolina Wählby; Johan Elf; KTH; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Single cell analysis; time-lapse fluorescence imaging; automated image analysis; microwell; droplet microfluidics; NK cells; single cell tracking; migration behavior analysis; cell-cell interaction; optical microscopy; image analysis; image processing; microfluidics; immune cells; tracking; counting; morphology analysis;

    Abstract : Today many cell biological techniques study large cell populations where an average estimate of individual cells’ behavior is observed. On the other hand, single cell analysis is required for studying functional heterogeneities between cells within populations. READ MORE

  5. 20. Influence of neuromodulators and mechanical loading on pathological cell and tissue characteristics in tendinosis

    Author : Gloria Fong; Patrik Danielson; Alex Scott; Ludvig Backman; Paul Ackermann; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; substance P; acetylcholine; transforming growth factor; neuromodulators; mechanical loading; tendinosis; anatomi; Human Anatomy;

    Abstract : Background: Tendinosis is a painful chronic, degenerative condition characterized by objective changes in the tissue structure of a tendon. Hallmark features in tendinosis tendons include increased number of cells (hypercellularity), extracellular matrix (ECM) degradation and disorganized collagen. READ MORE
