1. Articular cartilage proteoglycan biosynthesis and sulfation
Abstract : Glucosamine (GlcN) and glucosamine sulfate (GS) have been used to treat the patients with osteoarthritis(OA) as a disease-modifying agent. Previousin vitro studies have focused on the effects of GlcN or GSon cartilage metabolism, whereas in vivo studies have investigated their potential for the treatment of OA. READ MORE

2. Pharmacology and resistance mechanisms of nucleoside analogues and topoisomerase II interactive agents : studies on human leukemia cells with a focus on cross-resistance
Abstract : The purpose of this thesis was to elucidate mechanisms of action and resistance of clinically relevant nucleoside analogues and topoisomerase interactive agents in human leukemia cell lines and leukernia cells isolated from peripheral blood of leukemia patients. Interactions and cross-resistance patterns of these different cytotoxic drug families were also studied since these drugs are usually administrated in combination in the clinic. READ MORE

3. Heterogeneity of leukemic cells with regard to daunorubicin accumulation and efflux : potential role in drug resistance
Abstract : Cellular resistance to chemotherapy is a major cause of treatment failure in acute myelocytic leukemia (AML) and other malignancies. Drug resistance is multifactorial; the most studied mechanism being multidrug resistance (MDR), mediated by the P-glycoprotein (PPG), a transmembrane transport protein with a pump function, encoded by the mdr 1 gene. 4. Defence and signalling in Potato-Phytophthora infestans interactions
Abstract : Potato is one of the major food crops and its yield is severely affected by late blight disease caused by Phytophthora infestans. P. infestans has the ability to manipulate plant defence signalling by secreting effector molecules causing so called effector triggered susceptibility. READ MORE

5. Analysis of Deformation of Gas Diffusion Layers and the Impact on Performance of PEM Fuel Cells
Abstract : Proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cells have been promoted due to significant breakthroughs in various aspects and increasing public interests. The porous features of the gas diffusion layer (GDL) and the necessary assembly processes generate localized pressure forces on the channel/shoulder structure of the bi-polar plates (BPP). READ MORE
