  1. 1. Microfluidic Cell and Particle Sorting using Deterministic Lateral Displacement

    Author : Stefan Holm; Fasta tillståndets fysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Microfluidics; Separation science; Deterministic Lateral Displacement; Cell analysis; Deterministic lateral displacement; Microfluidics; Particle sorting; Droplet microfluidics; trypanosomiasis; red blood cell; Cell sorting; Fysicumarkivet A:2018:Holm;

    Abstract : Microfluidics is a field which has the potential to revolutionize medical diagnostics. The ability to sort and analyse cells by the use of portable handheld devices has the potential to enable sensitive devices for point-of-care diagnostics. READ MORE

  2. 2. The release of histone proteins from cells via extracellular vesicles

    Author : Uma Muthukrishnan; Jonathan Gilthorpe; Miles Trupp; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Histone; extracellular vesicles; exosomes; extracellular histones extracellular DNA; cellular stress; proteomics; ESCRT complex; Lrrn1; mid-hindbrain organizer; ovarian cancer; ascites;

    Abstract : Histones are chromatin-associated proteins localized to the nucleus. However, extracellular histones are present in biofluids from healthy individuals and become elevated under disease conditions, such as neurodegeneration and cancer. READ MORE

  3. 3. Talking to the Brain at the Blood-Brain Barrier through Inflammation-Induced Prostaglandin E2

    Author : Ana Maria Vasilache; Camilla Nilsberth; Sivert Lindström; Fredrik Elinder; Ted Ebendal; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The immune-to-brain signaling is a critical survival factor when the body is confronted by pathogens, and in particular by microorganisms. During infections, the ability of the immune system to engage the central nervous system (CNS) in the management of the inflammatory response is just as important as its ability to mount a specific immune response against the pathogen, since the CNS can provide a systemic negative feed-back to the immune activation by release of stress hormones and also can prioritize the usage of the energy resources by the vital organs. 4. 4. Cardiac cell identification and isolation

    Author : Laura Tarnawski; Stamcellscentrum (SCC); []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Identification and isolation of cardiomyocytes from the heart, embryonic stem cells, or induced pluripotent stem cells is a challenging task and will require specific isolation techniques. Less than 30% of the cells within the murine heart are cardiomyocytes and, what is more, there are multiple sub-populations of cardiomyocytes like atrial, ventricular and conduction system cardiomyocytes.
