  1. 6. Cellulose synthases in Populus- identification, expression analyses and in vitro synthesis

    Author : Soraya Djerbi; Tuula Teeri; Petter Gustafsson; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; cellulose synthase; Populus; secondary cell wall; gene upregulation; cell suspension culture; stationary phase; Bioengineering; Bioteknik;

    Abstract : Cellulose is a biopolymer of great relevance in the plant cell walls, where it constitutes the most important skeletal component. Cellulose is also an important raw material in the pulp- and paper, forest, and textile industries, among others. READ MORE

  2. 7. Host-pathogen interactions in root infecting oomycete species

    Author : Sara Hosseini; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The oomycetes include some of the most devastating pathogens on both cultivated crops and wild plants. In the genus Phytophthora some closely related species have a broad host range, while others are very host specific. READ MORE

  3. 8. UDP-sugar metabolizing pyrophosphorylases in plants : formation of precursors for essential glycosylation-reactions

    Author : Daniel Decker; Leszek A. Kleczkowski; Henrik Vibe Schelle; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Chemical library screening; Cell wall synthesis; Glycosylation; Nucleotide sugars; Oligomerization; Protein structure; Reverse chemical genetics; Sugar activation; UDP-sugar synthesis; biokemisk farmakologi; biochemical pharmacology; biokemi; Biochemistry; biology; biologi; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Abstract : UDP-sugar metabolizing pyrophosphorylases provide the primary mechanism for de novo synthesis of UDP-sugars, which can then be used for myriads of glycosyltranferase reactions, producing cell wall carbohydrates, sucrose, glycoproteins and glycolipids, as well as many other glycosylated compounds. The pyrophosphorylases can be divided into three families: UDP-Glc pyrophosphorylase (UGPase), UDP-sugar pyrophosphorylase (USPase) and UDP-N-acety lglucosamine pyrophosphorylase (UAGPase), which can be discriminated both by differences in accepted substrate range and amino acid sequences. 4. 9. Cell death in atherosclerosis

    Author : Milita Crisby; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : atherosclerosis; carotid artery stenosis; ischemic stroke; apoptosis; necrosis; lipid peroxidation; plaque stability; pravastatin; inflammation; 27-[alpha]-hydroxylase;

    Abstract : Rupture of atherosclerotic lesions is recognized as the major cause of acute cerebrovascular and coronary syndromes. The characteristics of the typical vulnerable plaque include increased inflammatory cells at the shoulder region, a large lipid core, a thin fibrous cap with few collagen fibers and smooth muscle cells. 5. 10. The role and synthesis of β1,3-galactans in plant cell wall formation

    Author : Petrus Nibbering; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The plant cell wall associated hydroxyproline rich glycoproteins (HRGPs) play an important role in cell wall formation, but the mechanisms are not well understood. The HRGP family consists of the heavily glycosylated arabinogalactan proteins (AGPs) and the moderately glycosylated extensins (EXTs) and proline rich proteins (PRPs). READ MORE
