  1. 1. Microfibrillated cellulose : Energy-efficient preparation techniques and key properties

    Author : Mikael Ankerfors; Lars Wågberg; Minna Hakkarainen; Paul Gatenholm; KTH; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Microfibrillated cellulose; microfibrillar cellulose; nanofibrillated cellulose nanofibrillar cellulose; nanocellulose; MFC; NFC; production techniques; energy efficient; gel properties; films; enzymes; carboxymethylation; carboxymethyl cellulose; CMC; mechanical properties; oxygen barrier; homogenization;

    Abstract : This work describes three alternative processes for producing microfibrillated cellulose (MFC) in which pulp fibres are first pre-treated and then homogenized using a high-pressure homogenizer. In one process, fibre cell wall delamination was facilitated with a combined enzymatic and mechanical pre-treatment. READ MORE

    Abstract : Plastic pollution is one of the most pressing environmental issues in today’s world. Addressing this problem calls for the development of environmentally friendly alternatives that would reduce the amount of persistent plastic waste. READ MORE

  3. 3. Laboratory method for the study of moisture-induced waviness in paper

    Author : Cecilia Land; Göran Ström; Karlstads universitet; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; method; moisture; paper; paper web; wavelength; waviness; Cellulose and paper engineering; Cellulosa- och pappersteknik; Chemical Engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Abstract : Paper that is subjected to moisture undergoes dimensional changes. It expands during moistening and shrinks during drying. When the paper is under tension between rollers, the effects are complex since shrinkage and expansion are restricted in the width direction. Waves can then appear on the paper web. READ MORE

  4. 4. Pyrolysis of mixed plastics and paper to produce fuels and other chemicals

    Author : Nanta Sophonrat; Weihong Yang; Linda Sandström; Tobias Richards; KTH; []

    Abstract : As the world population and economy grow, higher consumption results in higher waste packaging, plastics and paper residues. Pyrolysis offers a way to recover fuels and other chemicals from this waste fraction. READ MORE

  5. 5. Integrated Cellulosic Wood Aerogel Structures

    Author : Jonas Garemark; Yuanyuan Li; Lars Berglund; Gustav Nyström; KTH; []
