1. Theory and use of chaotic oscillators in electronic communication systems
Abstract : The theory and applications of chaotic oscillators in electronic commuication are investigated. A method of random number generation utilising a chaotic double scroll oscillator is proposed and evaluated. The theoretical limits of the randomness of the method is analysed.. READ MORE

2. Explanation and deduction : a defence of deductive chauvinism
Abstract : In this essay I defend the notion of deductive explanation mainly against two types of putative counterexamples: those found in genuinely indeterministic systems and those found in complex dynamic systems. Using Railton's notions of explanatory information and ideal explanatory text, deductivism is defended in an indeterministic setting. READ MORE

3. Error-Correcting Codes Based on Chaotic Dynamical Systems
Abstract : This dissertation treats a novel class of error-correcting codes based on chaotic dynamical systems. The codes are defined over a continuous alphabet whereas the information that is to be transmitted belongs to a discrete set of symbols. Simple expressions can be given for the encoders, and the codewords can be described by a parity-check relation. READ MORE

4. Get a grip on chaos : Tailored measures for complex systems on surfaces
Abstract : Complex systems are ubiquitous in physics, biology and mathematics. This thesis is concerned with describing and understanding complex systems. Some new concepts about how large systems can be viewed in a lower dimensional framework are proposed. The systems presented are examples from ecology and chemistry. READ MORE

5. Design and Security Analysis of TRNGs and PUFs
Abstract : True Random Number Generators (TRNGs) and Physical Unclonable Functions (PUFs) are two important types of cryptographic primitives. TRNGs create a hardware-based, non-deterministic noise that is often used for generating keys, initialization vectors, and nonces for various applications that require cryptographic protection.
