  1. 16. Identifying individuals at risk of fragility fractures in a dental setting

    Author : Charlotta Elleby; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Introduction: The increasing life expectancy is only positive if the added years are healthy years. Fragility fractures are most common in older adults, and they can result in lowered quality of life and high costs for the society. READ MORE

  2. 17. Regeneration in continuous cover forestry systems

    Author : Charlotta Erefur; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The overall aim of the studies underlying this thesis has been to qualify and quantify the regeneration of tree species in a range of typical growing environments of possible Continuous Cover Forestry (CCF) silvicultural systems in boreal forests of northern Sweden. Data presented in Papers I and II show that the light environment did not differ significantly between points at different distances to trees, but it was clearly affected by the stand stem density (SSD). 3. 18. Cardiovascular and metabolic effects of long-term traffic noise exposure

    Author : Charlotta Eriksson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Traffic noise is an increasingly common environmental exposure affecting large parts of the European population. Since the auditory system is directly linked to the sympathetic nervous and the endocrine systems, noise may induce a stress response, influencing several physiological, metabolic and immunological processes. 4. 19. Region-specific expression of the interleukin-1 system in rat brain following endotoxin challenge and excitotoxic neurodegeneration

    Author : Charlotta Eriksson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Traditionally, up-regulation and secretion of cytokines are associated with peripheral immune and inflammatory responses. There is now evidence that cytokines also exert various actions in the central nervous system (CNS). READ MORE

  5. 20. Short-chain dehydrogenases/reductases : structure, function and motifs of hydroxysteroid dehydrogenases

    Author : Charlotta Filling; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Short-chain dehydrogenases reductases; site-directed mutagenesis; steady-state kinetics; X-ray structure; enzyme function; steroid; motif; reaction mechanism; 3 beta 17 beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase; 17 beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase; short chain hydroxyacyl coenzyme A dehydrogenase;

    Abstract : Short-chain dehydrogenases/reductases (SDR) constitute a superfamily of proteins catalysing reactions of a wide range of substrates in all life forms. During the past years, a large number of new proteins belonging to this superfamily has been detected. They are important in e.g. READ MORE
