  1. 1. rd1 Photoreceptor Degeneration: Photoreceptor Rescue and Role of Metalloproteases in Retinal Degeneration

    Author : Poonam Ahuja Jensen; Allmänmedicin och samhällsmedicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Oftalmologi; Ophtalmology; retinal degeneration; Survival factors; metalloproteases;

    Abstract : The thesis is focused on an attempt to delay photoreceptor cell death in the rd1 mouse using Lens Epithelium Derived Growth Factor (LEDGF), Glutathione S-Transferase mu (GST-?? and Glutathione S-Transferase alpha (GST-?? in an organ culture paradigm as well as the role of metalloproteases (MMPs) and their tissue inhibitors in photoreceptor degeneration (TIMPs). The rd1 mouse model displays a retina degeneration which starts around day 10 with rod photoreceptor cell death. READ MORE

  3. 3. C–H activation through late transition metal cyclometallation. Addressing selectivity and reactivity problems

    Author : Mikhail Kondrashov; Centrum för analys och syntes; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; C—H activation; cyclometallation; pincer ligands; anion exchange; bimetallic complexes; oxidative functionalisation;

    Abstract : The ligand-directed C—H activation relies on a coordinating donor atom being in proximity to the C—H bond activated. Cyclometallation of 2-(1-naphthyl)-pyridine – a substrate containing both γ- and δ-positions in proximity to the directing nitrogen atom – was studied. READ MORE

  4. 4. Experimental studies of kinetic solvent deuterium isotope effects on proton abstraction in alcohol solution

    Author : Jan-Olof Levin; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The present dissertation is an account based on investigations published in the following papers:I. JAN-OLGF LEVIN and CHRISTOFFER RAPPE, Solvent Deuterium Isotope Effects in Alcohols. I. Racemization of Phenyl2,2-Diphenylcyclopropyl Ketone, 3-Nethyl-4-phenyl-2-butanone and 2-Nethyl-1-indanone. READ MORE

  5. 5. Novel Pentofuranose Chemistry to Modulate RNA Function

    Author : Mansoureh Karimiahmadabadi; Jyoti Chattapadhyaya; Jesper Wengel; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : pentofuranose chemistry; conformationally locked nucleoside; carbocyclic-LNA; bicyclo[2.2.1]heptane;

    Abstract : Chemical modifications of oligonucleotides provide an important tool to understand how the natural substrate works as well as how to improve their biochemical and biological properties as potential therapeutics and diagnostics. Our carba-LNA (2',4'-carba-bridged Locked Nucleic Acid) modified oligo-DNA or -RNA have been found to be useful to modulate oligo-RNA and -DNA activity. READ MORE
