  1. 21. Release to the Gas Phase of Potassium, Chlorine, and Sulfur from Biomass Fuels under Dual Fluidized Bed Gasification Conditions

    Author : Placid Tchoffor Atongka; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : The transformation and release of ash-forming elements during the thermal conversion of biomass are conducive to ash-related problems, for example, agglomeration of the bed material in fluidized beds. The occurrence and severity of ash-related problems largely depend on the extents to which potassium (K), chlorine (Cl), and sulfur (S) are released from biomass fuels to the gas phase during thermal conversion processes. 2. 22. Potential of Organosolv Lignin Nanoparticles as a Sustainable Flotation Reagent : Towards a Low-Carbon Footprint Mining Industry

    Author : Katerina Hruzova; Ulrika Rova; Saija Luukkanen; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Organosolv lignin particles; Nanoparticles; Flotation reagent; Copper recovery; Biokemisk processteknik; Biochemical Process Engineering;

    Abstract : The green transition is driving a steep increase in the demand for minerals, which has put the focus on more responsible and sustainable mining practices as there is a growing pressure on mining operations to minimise their environmental footprint, mitigate risks in neighbouring communities, and decrease the consumption of natural resources. In 2022, mineral froth flotation was used to recover 18 million tonnes of copper from copper ore, accounting for 80% of total copper mine output. READ MORE

  3. 23. Lignin Conversion to Value-Added Small-Molecule Chemicals : Towards Integrated Forest Biorefineries

    Author : Omar Y. Abdelaziz; Avdelningen för kemiteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; aromatic monomers; biorefinery; catalysis; kraft lignin; lignin depolymerization; lignin valorization; microbial conversion; renewable chemicals; techno-economic analysis;

    Abstract : Lignin is the most abundant aromatic biopolymer on Earth and has significant potential as a feedstock for industrial use. Due to its intrinsic heterogeneity and recalcitrance, lignin has been regarded as a low-value side-product in the pulp and paper industry and in second-generation biorefineries. READ MORE

  4. 24. Separation of Biomass Components by Membrane Filtration - Process Development for Hemicellulose Recovery

    Author : Holger Krawczyk; Avdelningen för kemiteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Biomass; hemicelluloses; pulp mill process water; alkaline extract; membrane filtration;

    Abstract : One of the major challenges facing the world today is the reduction of our dependency on fossil resources as their exploitation has severe negative effects on the environment. One way of realizing this is to utilise the components of lignocellulosic biomass to a greater extent as feedstock for various industrial products. READ MORE

  5. 25. From Waste to Wealth: Transforming Biorefineries into Platforms to Valorize Low-Quality Residues

    Author : Miguel Sanchis Sebastia; Avdelningen för kemiteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Biorefinery; Animal Bedding; Waste Textiles; Biomass; Biotechnology; Process Design;

    Abstract : The transition to a bioeconomy, in which resources from biowaste could be reclaimed for the production of chemicals, materials or fuels, could contribute to the establishment of a sustainable society by replacing fossil fuels as raw materials. The core of this bioeconomy would be biorefineries, which are similar to petroleum-based refineries, but are facilities where biowaste is processed and refined through different chemical and/or biochemical processes.
