1. Long-term metal retention processes in a peat bog : Field studies, data and modelling
Abstract : The study was inspired by the need to assess long-term metal retention in municipal solid waste (MSW) landfills. The long-term processes in landfills are poorly known due to the relatively short time that such landfills have been in existence. Natural analogues where similar metal binding processes could be expected were therefore sought for. READ MORE

2. Antivirulent and antibiofilm salicylidene acylhydrazide complexes in solution and at interfaces
Abstract : The growing bacterial resistance against antibiotics creates a limitation for using traditional antibiotics and requests development of new approaches for treatment of bacterial infections. Among the bacterial infections that are most difficult to treat, biofilm-associated infections are one of the most hazardous. READ MORE

3. Thermodynamic Properties of CO2 Mixtures and Their Applications in Advanced Power Cycles with CO2 Capture Processes
Abstract : The thermodynamic properties of CO2-mixtures are essential for the design and operation of CO2 Capture and Storage (CCS) systems. A better understanding of the thermodynamic properties of CO2 mixtures could provide a scientific basis to define a proper guideline of CO2 purity and impure components for the CCS processes according to technical, safety and environmental requirements. 4. Modelling and experimental investigation of the porous nickel anode in the molten carbonate fuel cell
Abstract : The thesis is focussed on the performance of the fuel cell and the design of the cell for operation with natural gas and renewable fuels, e.g. biogas or gasified biomass. The performance is one of the important issues for the development and commercialisation of fuel cell stacks. READ MORE

5. Modelling and simulation of paper structure development
Abstract : A numerical tool has been developed for particle-level simulations of fibre suspension flows, particularly forming of the fibre network structure of paper sheets in the paper machine. The model considers inert fibres of various equilibrium shapes, and finite stiffness, interacting with each other through normal, frictional, and lubrication forces, and with the surrounding fluid medium through hydrodynamic forces.
