21. Carbothermal synthesis of nano-structured metal, carbides and nitrides, using solution processed precursors; from precursor to product
Abstract : This thesis describes how solution chemical based carbothermal syntheses can be used for the synthesis of nanostructured zirconium carbide and nitride nanophase powders as well as a nickel-metal coating on NbC for use as a sintering agent. The focus is on the development of novel synthesis routes using atomic or small nanoscale level mixing of the metal oxide and carbon source in the starting precursors, enabling the use of lower synthesis temperatures and non-agglomerated nanosized powders. 22. Designing multicomponent alloy coatings for corrosion protection
Abstract : This thesis explores the design of metallic coatings for corrosion protection. The subject of the study was the new class of materials multicomponent alloys (MCAs, also known as high entropy alloys). They consist of near-equal concentrations of many (four or more) metals and are often reported to form a single phase with a simple crystal structure. READ MORE

23. Exploration of Non-Aqueous Metal-O2 Batteries via In Operando X-ray Diffraction
Abstract : Non-aqueous metal-air (Li-O2 and Na-O2) batteries have been emerging as one of the most promising high-energy storage systems to meet the requirements for demanding applications due to their high theoretical specific energy. In the present thesis work, advanced characterization techniques are demonstrated for the exploration of metal-O2 batteries. READ MORE

24. Oxygen Storage Chemistry of Nanoceria
Abstract : The versatile redox chemistry of ceria (CeO2) originates from its Ce4f electron, which plays the key role in changing the oxidation state of Ce between +IV and +III. Ceria is, among other things, a material that can act as a powerful oxygen buffer with a high oxygen storage capacity (OSC). READ MORE

25. Exploring Reaction Pathways in Li-ion Batteries with Operando Gas Analysis
Abstract : The reliance on Li-ion batteries is increasing as we transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources. Despite their widespread use, a gap remains in understanding certain processes within these batteries, especially regarding the solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) and the impact of side reactions on Li-ion batteries.
