  1. 1. Image Quality Optimisation and Dose Management in CT, SPECT/CT, and PET/CT

    Author : Marcus Söderberg; Malmö Medicinsk strålningsfysik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; CT; SPECT; PET; dosimetry; image quality; optimisation; dose reduction; automatic exposure control; contrast medium; phantom; image reconstruction; human observer;

    Abstract : The significant increase in the use of CT, alone or combined with SPECT or PET, has raised concerns about patient radiation exposure and the consequent increased risk of malignancy later in life. The overall objective of this work was to evaluate and optimise different approaches for minimising patient radiation absorbed dose and maintaining or improving image quality in CT, SPECT/CT, and PET/CT. 2. 2. Detection of pulmonary nodules in chest tomosynthesis: Comparison with chest radiography, evaluation of learning effects and investigation of radiation dose level dependency

    Author : Sara Asplund; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Chest radiography; Chest tomosynthesis; Nodule detection; Observer performance; Free-response receiver operating characteristics;

    Abstract : Chest tomosynthesis is a relatively recently introduced technique in healthcare, which produces section images of the chest at a lower radiation dose than computed tomography (CT) and with better depth resolution than conventional chest radiography. The primary aims of the studies described in this dissertation were to compare chest tomosynthesis with conventional radiography, to evaluate the effects of clinical experience and learning with feedback on the performance of observers analyzing tomosynthesis images, and to investigate the effect of radiation dose level in tomosynthesis, in the detection of pulmonary nodules. 3. 3. Aortic valve imaging - Towards new standards in prosthetic valve endocarditis

    Author : Erika Fagman; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; prosthetic valve endocarditis; aortic valve endocarditis; ECG-gated CT; cardiac CT; 18F-FDG PET CT;

    Abstract : Background: Aortic prosthetic valve endocarditis (PVE) is a disease with high mortality, and diagnosis is difficult. Transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) has been the mainstay imaging modality in the diagnostic workup, but TEE has diagnostic shortcomings. Thus, new imaging methods might improve the diagnostic workup of PVE. READ MORE

  4. 4. Safety with Mechanical Chest Compressions in CPR : Clinical studies with the LUCAS™ device

    Author : David Smekal; Sten Rubertsson; Michael Baubin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cardiac arrest; Cardiopulmonary resuscitation; Mechanical chest compressions; Active compression-decompression; Injury; Autopsy; LUCAS; Medicin; Medicine;

    Abstract : Chest compressions in cardiopulmonary resuscitation are of utmost importance although not without a risk. Many injuries are described but the incidence of these is hard to define due to methodological differences. It is strenuous to perform chest compressions and therefore mechanical chest compressions have been looked upon with interest. READ MORE

  5. 5. Whole-Body MRI including Diffusion-Weighted Imaging in Oncology

    Author : Firas Mosavi; Håkan Ahlström; Lennart Blomqvist; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Diffusion-weighted imaging; Whole-body MRI; NaF PET CT; FDG PE CT; apparent diffusion coefficient;

    Abstract : Cancer is one of the major causes of worldwide mortality. Imaging plays a vital role in the staging, follow-up, and evaluation of therapeutic response in cancer patients. Whole-body (WB) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), as a non-ionizing imaging technique, is a promising procedure to assess tumor spreading in a single examination. READ MORE
