  1. 1. Developmental neurotoxicity of persistent and non-persistent pollutants : Behavioral and neurochemical assessments of a perfluorinated compound, pesticides and interaction effects

    Author : Iwa Lee; Henrik Viberg; Per Eriksson; William Mundy; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Brain; Neonatal; Mixtures; Cholinergic system; Organochlorines; Pyrethroids; Organophosphates; Carbamates; Insecticides; PFCs; PFAAs; PFHxS; Endosulfan; Cypermethrin; Chlorpyrifos; Carbaryl; Biology with specialization in Environmental Toxicology; Biologi med inriktning mot miljötoxikologi;

    Abstract : The focus of this thesis was to investigate developmental neurotoxic effects of different persistent and non-persistent environmental pollutants, alone or in binary mixtures, when exposure occurs during a critical period of brain development, in mice. The compounds investigated included a perfluorinated compound, perfluorohexane sulphonate (PFHxS), and four different pesticides, endosulfan, cypermethrin, chlorpyrifos and carbaryl. READ MORE

  2. 2. Pesticide use in rice farming and its impacts on climbing perch (Anabas testudineus) in the Mekong Delta of Vietnam

    Author : Thanh Tam Nguyen; Håkan Berg; Michael Tedengren; Cong Van Nguyen; Joachim Sturve; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mekong Delta; Rice field; Climbing perch; Insecticide; Chlorpyrifos ethyl; Fenobucarb; Mixture; Sequential applications; AChE; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Abstract : The intensification of agricultural production in the Mekong Delta has faced serious challenges with respect to increased use of agrochemicals and especially pesticides. The indiscriminate use of pesticide could potentially impact on the long-term food production, environmental and human health in the delta. READ MORE

  3. 3. Bioavailability of pesticides to benthic invertebrates : the role of aquatic biofilms and humic substances

    Author : Anna Lundqvist; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : In agricultural landscapes, pesticides are frequently contaminating nearby aquatic ecosystems. Unlike most other contaminants, pesticides are targeted against specific organism groups, but will also have negative effects on non-target organisms. When pesticides enter aquatic environments they tend to sorb to fine organic matter. READ MORE

  4. 4. Biomarkers of exposure to pesticides in humans

    Author : Eva Ekman; Avdelningen för arbets- och miljömedicin; []
    Keywords : Biomarker; Mass Spectrometry; Pharmacokinetics; Exposure assessment; Peticides; Pregnant Women; Biomonitoring; Urine; LC-MS MS; Biomarker; Mass Spectrometry; Pharmacokinetics; Exposure assessment; Peticides; Pregnant Women; Biomonitoring; Urine; LC-MS MS;

    Abstract : Almost every human is exposed to pesticides, in work environments, by domestic use and via diet, drinking water and personal products. Current research expresses concern that low dose exposure over time can lead to adverse health effects. READ MORE

  5. 5. Dermal exposure to pesticides in Nicaragua : a qualitative and quantitative approach

    Author : Aurora Aragón; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Dermal exposure; developing country; pesticides; subsistence farmers; fluorescent tracer; visual scoring system; skin wipes; pesticide residues.;

    Abstract : Background: Pesticide use continues to be a serious public health problem in developing countries, despite decades of safe pesticide use strategies. In Nicaragua, organophosphate insecticides, in particular chlorpyrifos and methamidophos are responsible for about half of the acute pesticide poisonings. READ MORE
