  1. 6. Effects of Total Parenteral Nutrition on the Exocrine and Endocrine Pancreas. An Experimental Study

    Author : Bo-Guang Fan; Lund Kirurgi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; orthopaedics; Surgery; TPN; Parotid glands; Lysosomal enzyme; Insulin; Hypotrophy; Hyperlipidemia; Food passage; Endocrine pancreas; Cholecystokinin; Exocrine pancreas; traumatology; Kirurgi; ortopedi; traumatologi; Gastro-enterology; Gastroenterologi;

    Abstract : During total parenteral nutrition (TPN) adequate nutrition is provided intravenously and the enteral route is bypassed. The integrity of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, however, is dependent on the passage of food through it. This thesis deals with the effects of TPN on the pancreas and the parotid glands. READ MORE

  2. 7. Pancreatic carcinoma in Malmö, Sweden: Clinical, epidemiological and biochemical aspects

    Author : Mats Hedberg; Kirurgi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Kirurgi; Pancreatic carcinoma; survival rate; epidemiology; incidence rate; risk factors; smoking; weight gain; gastric resection; cholecystokinin; Surgery; pancreatic enzymes; traumatology; traumatologi; ortopedi; orthopaedics;

    Abstract : The objective of this thesis has been to assess whether there are indications suggesting that new methods for diagnosis and treatment of pancreatic carcinoma (PCa) has been followed by an improved prognosis, and to assess the possible role of smoking and gastric resection in the causation of the disease. Of the 1,200 new cases PCa diagnosed in Sweden yearly, the majority are older than 70 years, the case fatality rate being close to 100%. READ MORE

  3. 8. Interference with biological rhythm : a novel approach to metabolic disorders in women

    Abstract : Women seem to be largely protected against certain ‘welfare disorders’ such as cardiovacular disease and osteoporosis, during their fertile years.The metabolic changes observed during women’s non-menstrual states, i.e. READ MORE

  4. 9. CCK-dependent pancreatic regulation and pancreatic functional impact on growth in young pigs

    Author : Sofia Rengman; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; pancreatin; pig; exocrine pancreatic insufficiency; pancreatic duct ligation; insulin; entero-pancreatic reflex; CCK-receptors; pentagastrin; Exocrine pancreas; cholecystokinin;

    Abstract : The exocrine pancreas is mainly regulated via neuro-hormonal pathways. CCK-dependent regulatory pathways and CCK-receptor subtype involved seem to differ between mammalian species. READ MORE

  5. 10. Aspects on the psychopharmacology of cholecystokinin

    Author : Diana Radu; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Cholecystokinin; brain; tripeptidyl-peptidase II; CCK receptors; schizophrenia; anxiety; stress; rat; monkey; human; pentagastrin; C-peptide; mRNA;

    Abstract : This thesis includes studies of the effect of mild stress on brain cholecystokinin (CCK), anatomy of markers for CCK-ergic transmission in the brain and the systemic effect of CCK receptor stimulation in a clinical test for anxiety and fear. CCK is a brain-gut peptide acting as a neurotransmitter in mammalian brain via CCKA (CCK1) and CCKB (CCK2) receptors. READ MORE
