  1. 11. Genetic Determinants of Dyslipidemia

    Author : Tibor V Varga; Genetisk och molekylär epidemiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetic epidemiology; Genetic polymorphism; dyslipidaemia; Cholesterol; Triglyceride; Genetic risk; genetic risk score; Single nucleotide polymorphism; Prediction; Gene-environment interactions; Randomized controlled trial; prospective cohort studies; Observational study; GLACIER Study; Diabetes Prevention Program;

    Abstract : Dyslipidemia is a chronic deviation from normal blood lipid levels that can lead to atherosclerosis and other cardiovascular diseases; dyslipidemia and its sequelae are caused by the complex interplay of genetic and environmental factors. Although circulating concentrations of total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) have a strong genetic underpinning, not much is known about the genetic factors that affect long-term deteriorations in lipid concentrations. 2. 12. Risk factors for fractures - a link between metabolic bone disease and cardiovascular disease

    Author : Penelope Trimpou; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : Risk factors; General population; Physical activity; Sex hormones; Cholesterol; Stroke; Fracture;

    Abstract : Introduction: Fractures and cardiovascular disease (CVD) are a burden to society, as they result in high morbidity and mortality in both men and women. Aim: The aim was to study prospectively modifiable risk factors for fractures in the general population and to possibly identify a link between metabolic bone disease and CVD. READ MORE

  3. 13. Omics Techniques Applied to Diabetes Research - Focus on HSL-Null Mice and Clonal β-Cells

    Author : Celine Fernandez; Molekylär endokrinologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; metabolomics; transcriptomics; treadmill; liver; HSL; cholesterol; proteomics;

    Abstract : Diabetes mellitus is a disease characterized by increased blood glucose levels. For overt type 2 diabetes to develop, both insulin action and insulin secretion must be perturbed. READ MORE

  4. 14. Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm : Experience from a Screening Study in Northern Sweden

    Author : Anders Wanhainen; Martin Björck; Jesper Swedenborg; Uppsala universitet; []

    Abstract : Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) is a common problem with life-threatening consequences and was suspected to be a serious health problem in Norsjö, a municipality in northern Sweden. A screening study was undertaken to investigate the prevalence, risk factors associated with AAA and the effect of screening on quality of life (QoL). READ MORE

  5. 15. Effects of feeding term infants low energy low protein formula supplemented with bovine milk fat globule membranes

    Author : Niklas Timby; Magnus Domellöf; Olle Hernell; Bo Lönnerdal; Ekhard Ziegler; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; infant formula; milk fat globule membranes; energy; protein; growth; cognition; parental control; infection; cholesterol; oral microbiota; Pediatrics; pediatrik;

    Abstract : Background Observational studies have shown that early nutrition influences short- and long-term health of infants. Formula-fed infants have higher protein and energy intakes and lower intakes of several biologically active components present in human milk. Some of these are present in the milk fat globule membrane (MFGM). READ MORE
