  3. 3. Estimating inclusion content in high performance steels

    Author : Jens Ekengren; Jens Bergström; Christer Burman; Hans Nordberg; Karlstads universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Materials Engineering; Materialteknik;

    Abstract : Non-metallic inclusions in steel pose a major problem for the fatigue resistance, especially regarding fatigue at very long lives corresponding to low cyclic stress levels, as well as being detrimental to material toughness and polishability.The largest inclusions are quite rare, which makes conventional detection methods timeconsuming if reliable results are to be obtained. 4. 4. Large and rare : An extreme values approach to estimating the distribution of large defects in high-performance steels

    Author : Jens Ekengren; Jens Bergström; Christer Burman; Thomas Svensson; Karlstads universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Non-metallic inclusions; Tool steel; Extreme value statistics; Distribution of defects; Generalized extreme values; Materialteknik; Materials Engineering;

    Abstract : The presence of different types of defects is an important reality for manufacturers and users of engineering materials. Generally, the defects are either considered to be the unwanted products of impurities in the raw materials or to have been introduced during the manufacturing process. READ MORE

  5. 5. High-temperature degradation of plasma sprayed thermal barrier coating systems

    Author : Robert Eriksson; Sten Johansson; Christer Burman; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIKVETENSKAP;

    Abstract : Thermal barrier coating systems (TBCs) are used in gas turbines to prevent high-temperature degradation of metallic materials in the combustor and turbine. One of the main concerns regarding TBCs is poor reliability, and accurate life prediction models are necessary in order to fully utilise the beneficial effects of TBCs. READ MORE
