  1. 1. Long-term effects of acupuncture

    Author : Christer Carlsson; Neurokirurgi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Physical medicine; stress-induced analgesia.; strong vs gentle stimulation; vomiting; nausea; hyperemesis gravidarum; urine incontinence; C-fibre response; WDR neurons; manual acupuncture; long term effects; pain categories; chronic low back pain; Acupuncture; randomised placebo-controlled trial; kinesitherapy; revalidation; rehabilitation; Rehabilitering medicinsk och social ; Neurology; neuropsychology; neurophysiology; Neurologi; neuropsykologi; neurofysiologi;

    Abstract : In a retrospective follow-up study, n=202, long-term pain relief (>6 months) after a course of acupuncture treatments was found mainly among patients with chronic nociceptive pain while patients with neurogenic or psychogenic pain did not benefit much. In a placebo-controlled randomised single-blind long-term study with independent observer of chronic nociceptive low back pain, n=50, it was found that acupuncture, was significantly superior to true placebo in all outcome measurements, even more than 6 months after the treatment series. 2. 2. Physiological demands of competitive elite cross-country skiing

    Author : Magnus Carlsson; Michail Tonkonogi; Christer Malm; Eva Andersson; Högskolan Dalarna; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Performance capability; maximal oxygen uptake; lactate threshold; lean mass; double poling; power output; maximal speed; sprint skiing; distance skiing.; Health and Welfare; Hälsa och välfärd;

    Abstract : Introduction Researchers have, for decades, contributed to an increased collective understanding of the physiological demands in cross-country skiing; however, almost all of these studies have used either non-elite subjects and/or performances that emulate cross-country skiing. To establish the physiological demands of cross-country skiing, it is important to relate the investigated physiological variables to the competitive performance of elite skiers. READ MORE

  3. 3. Brownian Dynamics Simulations of Macromolecules : Algorithm Development and Polymers under Confinement

    Author : Tobias Carlsson; Christer Elvingson; Wim Briels; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : In this thesis I have used computer simulations to study the structure and dynamics of grafted polymers during confinement. These systems are of importance for understanding e.g. colloidal stability and surface coatings. READ MORE

  4. 4. The importance of body-mass exponent optimization for evaluation of performance capability in cross-country skiing

    Author : Tomas Carlsson; Michail Tonkonogi; Christer Malm; Klavs Madsen; Högskolan Dalarna; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; allometric scaling; power-function modelling; maximal oxygen uptake; body mass; elite skiers; distance skiing; lactate threshold; double poling; sprint skiing; competition; power output; time trial; Health and Welfare; Hälsa och välfärd;

    Abstract : Introduction Performance in cross-country skiing is influenced by the skier’s ability to continuously produce propelling forces and force magnitude in relation to the net external forces. A surrogate indicator of the “power supply” in cross-country skiing would be a physiological variable that reflects an important performance-related capability, whereas the body mass itself is an indicator of the “power demand” experienced by the skier. 5. 5. Servicescape for Digital Wellness Services for Young Elderly

    Author : Hans Allmér; Christer Carlsson; Pirkko Walden; Anna Sell; Leif Marcusson; Siw Lundqvist; Anna Ståhlbröst; Finland Åbo Akademi University; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Informatik; Information Systems; Marketing; Marknadsföring;

    Abstract : In this thesis digital wellness services (DWSs) are in focus. The DWSs are services provided through digital devices, such as smartphones, bracelets, and tablets, by using digital environments such as Internet, cloud services, and websites. READ MORE
