1. The plantaris tendon in relation to the Achilles tendon in midportion Achilles tendinopathy : studies on morphology, innervation and signalling substances
Abstract : Midportion Achilles tendinopathy (tendinosis) is a troublesome painful condition, often characterised by pain, local swelling, tenderness and functional disability. Despite extensive research, the pathogenesis is poorly understood and treatment remains challenging. Features related to the peritendinous connective tissue can be of importance. READ MORE

2. Nitrogen land-sea fluxes in the Baltic Sea catchment : Empirical relationships and budgets
Abstract : In this thesis empirical relationships and modeling tools are used to describe the relationship between human activities and meso- and large scale riverine N fluxes from land to sea. On a large scale Paper I showed that by only having knowledge about human population size and runoff one can estimate the riverine export of DIN (r2= 0.76). READ MORE

3. Empirical Essays on Retail Logistics and Customer Behavior
Abstract : Retail logistics is responsible for making products available to end customers. Traditionally, this was facilitated through a network of brick and mortar stores that customers visit to buy items. However, the advent of online and omnichannel retail started to challenge this established system. READ MORE

4. Axionlike particles, quantum loops, and supernovae : The role of quantum loop corrections for astrophysical ALPs
Abstract : In this thesis the quantum field theory and astrophysical phenomenology of axionlike particles (ALPs) are studied. The effective field theory of ALPs is reviewed with a special focus on quantum loops, the renormalization group equations, and the equivalent forms of the interaction between ALPs and fermions. 5. Insulin Resistance : Causes, biomarkers and consequences
Abstract : The worldwide increasing number of persons affected by largely preventable diseases like diabetes demands better prevention and treatment. Insulin is required for effective utilisation of circulating nutrients. READ MORE
