6. Early steps of Eicosanoid precursor absorption and tissue distribution
Abstract : Eicosanoids are important for a wide range of physiological and pathophysiological processes. How their essential fatty acid precursors are absorbed and tissue distributed is not well charactherized. When given orally to rats, arachidonic acid (20:4) was retained in the small intestine to a larger extent than linoleic acid (18:2). READ MORE

7. Postprandial lipaemia and its relation to premature atherosclerosis in middle-aged men
Abstract : The present research programme was set up to investigate whether pertubations of the metabolism of postprandial triglyceride-rich lipoproteins (TRLs) are related to premature atherosclerosis and to determine if treatment with a 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-coenzyme A reductase inhibitor (atorvastatin) improves deranged alimentary lipaemia in postinfarction patients with combined hyperlipidaemia. The relation between plasma insulin and alimentary lipaemia was investigated as well. READ MORE

8. Proteomic profiling of osteoarthritis. A computational approach to biomarker discovery
Abstract : Understanding the molecular mechanisms of osteoarthritis (OA) is critical for early diagnosis and effective treatment. OA is a leading cause of disability and poses an increasing burden on healthcare systems, particularly with an aging global population. READ MORE

9. Interaction of Triglyceride-rich Lipoproteins with Platelets and Vitamin K-dependent Coagulation Factors
Abstract : 1. During incubation of platelets with 3H-arachidonic acid (20:4, n-6) and 14C-cholesterol doubly labelled and colloidal gold labelled chylomicrons (CMs) and chylomicron remnants (CMRs) CMs were taken up more efficiently than CMRs. Addition of unlabelled CMs, VLDLs, LDLs and HDLs decreased the uptake of labelled CMs. READ MORE

10. Fatty acids induce potentially atherogenic changes in extracellular matrix proteoglycans
Abstract : Insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes (T2D) are associated with an increased prevalence of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (CVD). A key step in the initiation of atherogenesis is retention of low density lipoproteins (LDL) in the intima by chondroitin sulfate (CS)-rich proteoglycans (PG). READ MORE
