  1. 1. Energy transition in transportation : Applying TIMES-based energy system optimisation models to sub-national levels

    Author : Jonas Forsberg; Anna Krook-Riekkola; Andrea Toffolo; Åsa Lindman; Krister Sandberg; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Energy system analysis; ESOM; Transportation; Climate change; Air quality; Energy Engineering; Energiteknik;

    Abstract : Transportation is embedded in the fabric of society and a key enabler of socio-economic development, but it is also a major source of carbon dioxide (CO2) and local air pollution (AP). Cities collectively account for around three quarters of total energy-related CO2 emissions, and the negative health impacts from local APs are most felt in dense urban environments. READ MORE

  2. 2. Ease-of-Use in Public Transportation : A User Perspective on Information and Orientation Aspects

    Author : Katrin Dziekan; Lars-Göran Mattsson; Brian D. Taylor; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; public transportation; user perspective; psychology; public transportation planning; evaluation; newcomers in a city; Civil engineering and architecture; Samhällsbyggnadsteknik och arkitektur;

    Abstract : This interdisciplinary thesis combines psychological and transportation planning knowledge. Three main questions are investigated: 1) What concepts and ideas do people have with regard to a public transportation system (cognitive user perspective)?; 2) What orientation and information factors within the public transportation system enhance Ease-of-Use and make it simpler and more efficient to use public transportation in metropolitan areas?; 3) How can Ease-of-Use of a public transportation route be measured? A combination of qualitative and quantitative methods was used. READ MORE

  3. 3. On the road to climate neutral Swedish transportation: Energy system modelling to support the transition at national, regional, and local levels

    Author : Jonas Forsberg; Anna Krook-Riekkola; Andrea Toffolo; Åsa Lindman; Hannah E. Daly; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Energy transition; Energy system modelling; TIMES-City; TIMES-Sweden; Transportation; Decarbonisation; Climate mitigation; Energiteknik; Energy Engineering;

    Abstract : Transportation is a critical pillar of modern society. Over the past decades, growth in mobility of people and goods have been both enabled by and dependent upon fossil fuels. Strong action is needed to break this dependence in order to reduce CO2. READ MORE

  4. 4. Low-Carbon City Initiatives in China : Planning Approaches, Dilemmas and Opportunities

    Author : Guanghong Zhou; Björn Frostell; Karel Mulder; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Low-carbon city; Urban planning; Metabolic approach; Industrial Ecology; Industriell ekologi;

    Abstract : In order to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, tackle climate change and move toward sustainable development, the central government in China has proposed low-carbon city development as the national strategy and relevant initiatives have been taken by local governments. This thesis analyses current low-carbon city programmes and planning approaches in China, identifies limitations and proposes a metabolic approach that could be used to account for physical resources, monitor GHG emissions and involve stakeholders in the planning process. Abstract : As more and more focus is put on the environmental questions and the request for cleaner transportation the demand on the vehicles increases. Especially the environmental request of the public transportation that is visible to the public and operates in the centre of the city. The demand on the buses used for public transportation will increase. READ MORE
