6. Geometry linking the art of building and the Universe: Geometric patterns on shells and grid shells
Abstract : Geometry links the art of building and the physics of space-time. Mathematical breakthroughs in geometry have led to new ways of designing our structures and our ability to visualise and describe the world, phenomena in nature and the universe. READ MORE

7. Working model and methods for balancing energy performance, cultural and architectural values in our built heritage
Abstract : About 40 per cent of the energy produced within the European Union is consumed in and by the residential and business sector, and the same applies to Sweden. Today’s necessary focus on the climate issue with the concomitant energy issue connected to greenhouse gas emissions has resulted in stringent energy requirements even for preservation work on historically important buildings. 8. Designing for Extremes
Abstract : The starting point of this research is based on personal experience in research and design for extreme environments, including orbital and lunar planetary facilities, disaster shelters, polar stations and offshore surface and submersible habitats. This work reflects on related to research problem technical papers, discussions with professionals about their work experience with projects in extreme conditions, and students' workshops debating strategies to form sustainable behavior and design practices. 9. Energy Efficiency and Preservation in Our Cultural Heritage : EEPOCH
Abstract : The project EEPOCH concerns our built heritage and the complex set of problems that exist between energy efficiency and preservation perspectives. New legislation demanding efficient energy use is predicated on the documented potential of energy efficiency on both national and international levels. READ MORE

10. Managing high environmental performance? : Applying life cycle approaches and environmental certification tools in the building and real estate sectors
Abstract : The main aim of this thesis is to demonstrate and critically assess life cycle approaches’ and environmental certification (EC) tools’ potential for supporting decisions for improved environmental performance in the building and real estate sectors.Using life cycle approaches, the thesis shows that for new build and renovation cases aiming for low operational energy use that embodied global warming potential (GWP) due to material production can constitute a large portion of a building’s lifetime GWP.
