11. Asymmetric transfer hydrogenation of ketones : Catalyst development and mechanistic investigation
Abstract : The development of ligands derived from natural amino acids for asymmetric transfer hydrogenation (ATH) of prochiral ketones is described herein. In the first part, reductions performed in alcoholic media are examined, where it is found that amino acid-derived hydroxamic acids and thioamides, respectively, are simple and versatile ligands that in combination with [RhCp*Cl2]2 efficiently catalyze this particular transformation. 12. Fluid Catalytic Cracking Catalyst Demetallization and Reactivation, Modeling of Catalytic Cracking, and Use of Microwaves to Heat Fluid Beds
Abstract : The fluid catalytic cracking unit (FCCU), the major conversion unit in an oil refinery, uses a silica-alumina zeolite catalyst to convert heavy hydrocarbons to light hydrocarbons. A small fraction of the catalyst must be continually replaced with fresh catalyst to maintain activity. READ MORE

13. InP-based photonic crystals : Processing, Material properties and Dispersion effects
Abstract : Photonic crystals (PhCs) are periodic dielectric structures that exhibit a photonic bandgap, i.e., a range of wavelength for which light propagation is forbidden. The special band structure related dispersion properties offer a realm of novel functionalities and interesting physical phenomena. READ MORE

14. Nanofabrication of Diffractive Soft X-ray Optics
Abstract : This thesis summarizes the present status of the nanofabrication of diffractive optics, i.e. zone plates, and test objects for soft x-ray microscopy at KTH. The emphasis is on new and improved fabrication processes for nickel and germanium zone plates. READ MORE

15. Valorisation of Renewable Building Blocks via Transition Metal Catalysis – Glycerol- and Amino Acid Derived Compounds in Hydrogen Borrowing and RuAAC Reactions
Abstract : To a large extent, organic building blocks are today obtained from petroleum-based products. From an environmental point of view, biomass-derived compounds are more sustainable alternatives to such oil-derived molecules. The 12 principles of green chemistry describe how chemical processes can be improved in terms of sustainability. READ MORE
