1. On Thallium (III) and binuclear platinum-thallium complexes with N-donor ligands in solution and in solid
Abstract : This thesis describes the synthesis, structure, equilibriaand other properties of novel thallium(III) monomeric andplatinum-bonded complexes with nitrogen donor ligandsethylenediamine, diethylenetriamine, triethylenetetramine, porphyrin, 2,2'-bipyridine and 1,10-phenanthroline in solutionand in solid. The existence of three complexes withthe general formula[Tl(en)n]3+(n = 1-3) and their overall stability constantshave been established in pyridine. 2. Structural Dynamics of Glass-Forming Liquids
Abstract : Neutron and light scattering experiments on glass-forming liquids, an oxide network, a polymeric system and a polymeric electrolyte, were performed. The network glass-former B2O3 was investigated from 60 - 1300 K. The experimental results were interpreted using mode coupling theory and the soft potential model. READ MORE

3. Aqueous Solutions as seen through an Electron Spectrometer : Surface Structure, Hydration Motifs and Ultrafast Charge Delocalization Dynamics
Abstract : In spite of their high abundance and importance, aqueous systems are enigmatic on the microscopic scale. In order to obtain information about their geometrical and electronic structure, simple aqueous solutions have been studied experimentally by photo- and Auger electron spectroscopy using the novel liquid micro-jet technique in conjunction with synchrotron radiation. 4. On-line Electrochemistry Electrospray Ionisation Mass Spectrometry : Method Development and Applications
Abstract : This thesis deals with studies of on-line electrochemistry electrospray ionisation mass spectrometry (EC/ESI-MS). It is shown that the use of EC/ESI-MS demands optimal coupling characteristics. Pre-concentration and desalting, due to matrix exchange, were demonstrated for the model substance 1-hexanethiol in an EC/ESI-MS setup. READ MORE

5. Charge Development at Iron Oxyhydroxide Surfaces : The Interplay between Surface Structure, Particle Morphology and Counterion Identity
Abstract : Iron (oxyhydr)oxide (FeOOH) minerals play important roles in various natural, technological and societal settings. The widespread abundance of these minerals has prompted numerous studies on their surface reactivity in aqueous media. Surface charge development, one that namely takes place through the adsorption of potential determining ions (p.d. READ MORE
