  1. 1. The Measurement of Subjective Well-Being: Item Response Theory, Classical Test Theory, and Multidimensional Item Response Theory

    Author : Ali Al Nima; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Life Satisfaction; Negative Affect; Positive Affect; Harmoni in Life Subjective Well-Being; Item Response Theory; Classical Test Theory; Multidimensional Item Response Theory.;

    Abstract : For over 35 years, modern science has conceptualized happiness as subjective well-being, which has until recently been understood as a dual construct consisting of an affective component (positive and negative affect) and a cognitive component (life satisfaction). Nevertheless, for the last five years, theoretical work and both quantitative and qualitative empirical work have suggested that the concept of subjective well-being omits both a lay and an Eastern way of understanding happiness. 2. 2. A Practice Theory in Practice : Analytical Consequences in the Study of Organization and Socio-Technical Change

    Author : Inti José Lammi; Jukka Hohenthal; Leon Caesarius; Anders Buch; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; practice theory; organization; organizing; work; technology; materiality; socio-technical change; methodology; qualitative research; site ontology; public administration; Business Studies; Företagsekonomi;

    Abstract : Appealing calls are often made towards the study of phenomena through so-called practice theory. However, the implications of the use of practice theory, if taken seriously in analysis, are rarely discussed. The chief concern of this thesis is the applicability of the most radical dimensions of practice theory. READ MORE

  3. 3. Adolescent mental health : time trends and validity of self-report measures

    Author : Ida Blomqvist; Eva Henje; Inga Dennhag; Anne Hammarström; Lotte Haverman; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Adolescent; classical test theory; computer adaptive testing; cross-sectional; differential item functioning; graded response model; item banks; item response theory; measurement invariance; mental health; Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System; Reynolds Adolescent Depression Scale second edition; self-report measures; time trends; barn- och ungdomspsykiatri; Child and Youth Psychiatry;

    Abstract : Background: Studies of time trends of adolescent self-reported mental health suggest an increase of mental health symptoms globally. Unfortunately, several studies within the field have methodological problems, such as short time-period between measurements and different mental health measures over time. READ MORE

  4. 4. Information-Theoretic Generalization Bounds: Tightness and Expressiveness

    Author : Fredrik Hellström; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; information theory; neural networks; generalization; statistical learning; meta learning; PAC-Bayes; Machine learning;

    Abstract : Machine learning has achieved impressive feats in numerous domains, largely driven by the emergence of deep neural networks. Due to the high complexity of these models, classical bounds on the generalization error---that is, the difference between training and test performance---fail to explain this success. READ MORE

    Author : Fredrik Borg; Teoretisk partikelfysik - Geonomgår omorganisation; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Elementary particle physics; termodynamik; statistisk fysik; gravitation; relativitet; kvantmekanik; thermodynamics; Matematisk och allmän teoretisk fysik; Pseudo-scalar meson; Isospin Breaking; Chiral Perturbation Theory; Mathematical and general theoretical physics; classical mechanics; quantum mechanics; relativity; statistical physics; Weak Interaction; Strong Interaction; kvantfältteori; High energy interactions; Kärnfysik; Nuclear physics; klassisk mekanik; quantum field theory; cosmic rays; Kosmisk strålning; högenergi; Elementarpartikelfysik;

    Abstract : The five different K -> 3 Pi and the three K -> 2 Pi decays are calculated in Chiral Perturbation Theory. The calculation is done using different approximations, to study whether this changes the result significantly. First the isospin approximation is used. Discrepancies are then found between theory and experiment. READ MORE
